An autopsy report conducted on the body of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student Denzel Omondi whose body was found dumped in a quarry has revealed what killed him.
Omondi was among protesters who marched to Parliament during the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests before his lifeless body was later found in Juja, Kiambu County.
The JKUAT student’s body was discovered in a quarry about a week after an alleged abduction during the finance bill protests.
Amnesty International Kenya, a human rights group that has been following up on his story in a statement on Tuesday July 9, revealed that an autopsy on Omondi’s body showed that he died by drowning following a postmortem examination.
The Human Rights group further expressed its dissatisfaction with the results, revealing that the body had bruises, and calling for more investigations.

We demand a credible independent investigation to reveal and prosecute who abducted, killed and dumped #OccupyCBD protester Denzel Omondi in a quarry to hide their crime,” read part of the statement.
Last Moments of Denzel Omondi
According to Amnesty International, the Quantity Survey Student at JKUAT protested at Parliament on June 25 and was last seen at the University on June 26 before his disappearance a day after.
His lifeless body would later be discovered at the Mashimoni quarry in Juja on July 6, 2024.
Amnesty International Kenya Executive Director Irungu Houghton who has been at the forefront of the case had earlier confirmed the incident while raising concerns over the rising cases of abductions.

Houghton while speaking in an interview on Citizen TV lamented that Omondi could not have been the sole victim of the alleged abductions.
“The abductions of people who are vocal in this protest by police are only providing conditions for chaos and mayhem. Denzel Omondi was abducted a week ago but has been found dead in a quarry and the question we need to ask is if he is the only one or if there are others,” said Irungu.
Association Makes Appeal to Kenyans
Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) on their part while confirming about the death of Denzel, who was a member of the association mourned him as a promising young professional.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our student member, Denzel Onyango Omondi, Member No. 5403 of the Quantity Surveyors Chapter.
We mourn the loss of this promising young professional and stand in solidarity with his family in the quest for justice,” read part of the statement.
AAK further made an appeal to Kenyans to contribute to Omondi’s family to support it in the burial arrangements.

Omondi’s case is among a number of reported incidents of alleged abduction that have been highlighted by Human Rights Groups.
