An autopsy report conducted on the body of the late 12-year-old Kennedy Onyango has revealed the cause of his death which left many people in shock.

Government pathologist Peter Ndegwa while speaking to the press on Monday, July 1, 2024, revealed that the autopsy confirmed that the late Onyango died of excessive bleeding.

Ndegwa further revealed that the postmortem examination indicated that the minor was shot once in his shoulder.

He said this was contrary to reports that have been going round that Kennedy was shot eight times.

“We have concluded that the cause of death is severe hemorrhage, he has one bullet which has entered from the right side of the body to the left side of the body through both axillar,” Dr Ndegwa said.

“It further shuttered the arteries and the veins in both the axillar areas and then perforated his two lungs.”

Furthermore, the pathologist stated that the nature of the bullet wound indicated that it was fired from a long range.

Onyango was killed on Thursday 27 2024 during anti-government protests in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.

According to his family, Kennedy left the house that fateful day to pick up a book he was sharing with a neighbouring classmate.

He would reportedly be shot eight times as the protests took an ugly turn, in a night riddled with violence, gunfire and looting.

Kennedy Onyango Parents Disagrees with the Autopsy Results

Despite the autopsy results, Kennedy’s family present at Ongata Rongai hospital is demanding the arrest and prosecution of the police officer who fired the gun during the protests.

The deceased’s father, Ouma Onyango, expressed dissatisfaction with the report, stating he would reluctantly accept it since it couldn’t bring back his son.

Ouma insisted that his son had been shot multiple times, disputing the pathologist’s findings.

“Yesterday, President William Ruto claimed my child is still alive, but you all here can attest that he is no longer with us,” Onyango’s mother lamented.

“My child was killed by bullets, not just one, but I’m not sure how many to ensure. I lack words to describe how I am feeling, my son was killed in the most gruesome manner, and he must receive the justice he deserves.”

Kennedy was a student at Ongata Rongai Junior School until his death. He was described by his parents as a calm and peaceful boy who was not involved in the protest.

The visionary young artist whose life was cut short dreamt of travelling to the United States of America (USA) to explore his gift of drawing.

Hussein Khalid, a human rights defender affiliated to Vocal Africa, demanded that justice be served. “Kennedy suffered a gunshot wound so severe that it passed through his body, which is a clear indication of the excessive force used by the police,” he said.
