Avril, born on April 30, 1986, in Nakuru County, is one of Kenya’s most celebrated singers, actresses, and entertainers.
She rose to fame in 2009 with the release of her debut single, “Mama”, a track that established her as a fresh voice in Kenya’s music industry.
Beyond her creativity, Avril is also a devoted mother. In 2018, she welcomed a son with her ex-partner, producer and director J Blessing.

Avril’s Education Background
She pursued her early education in Kenya before joining St. Joseph Girls’ Nsambya in Uganda, where she completed her secondary school studies.
She later enrolled at the University of Nairobi in 2006, where she studied Art and Design, specializing in Graphics and Product Design.
She graduated in 2009, the same year she made her musical debut.

Career
Avril’s journey into music began in 2005 when she met Emmanuel Banda, a talent manager at Ogopa Deejays, one of East Africa’s largest production houses.
Banda encouraged her to take music seriously, and soon after, Avril signed with Ogopa Deejays. Her debut single “Mama” in 2009 announced her arrival and showcased her unique style, blending R&B, pop, and dancehall.
Over the years, she has collaborated with leading artists across East Africa, including Marya, A.Y. (Tanzania), Colonel Mustapha, Boomba Boyz, Ommy Dimpoz, King Kaka, and Naiboi.
These collaborations secured her status as one of Kenya’s top female artists.
In addition to music, Avril has shaped a successful career as an actress by appearing in numerous Kenyan TV shows and films, with several projects streaming on Showmax. Notable roles include, World Tofauti played Nina, a hustler from Nairobi’s slums, Shuga portrayed Miss Behave, a celebrity singer advocating monogamy.
Faithless (Showmax) acted as Deborah, one of four women entangled in a money-laundering scheme, in Noose of Gold she played Corrine, a criminal mastermind.
In Pepeta (Showmax)she featured as Nduta, supporting a former football star turned coach.
Her versatility on screen mirrors her adaptability in music, making her one of Kenya’s most dynamic entertainers.
Beyond the stage and screen, Avril is committed to humanitarian and social causes. She was actively involved in the “Chagua Amani” Peace Campaign and has supported initiatives under the Kenya Land Alliance.
She also served as an ambassador for AMREF’s Save an African Mother Campaign, focusing on maternal health, and later became one of East Africa’s ambassadors for Oriflame Sweden, where she helped promote corporate social responsibility efforts.
In recent years, Avril has partnered with Justdiggit, an environmental organization dedicated to restoring degraded lands and promoting climate conservation.

Avril has won several awards, including the Nzumari Award in 2010, for Best Female Artist and Best Collaboration in 2017, in 2011, she was named the Most Promising Artist at the Golden Mic Awards.
During the Chaguo La Teeniez Awards in 2011, she won the Best Female Artist. At the Kisima Music Awards in 2013, she was named the Best Boomba Artist. Then in 2015, she won Best Female Artiste of the Year at the Pulse Music Video Awards and the Chaguo La Teeniez Awards. In 2012, she won Best Female Artiste and many more
