Billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates has addressed claims that vaccines are being used to track people’s locations.
Speaking during a BBC Africa Interview, the billionaire expressed concern over how false narratives are undermining global health efforts, especially the crucial task of vaccinating children.
“The internet allows 8 billion people to say whatever they want. It is tragic if the misunderstandings about the importance of vaccinating children lead people to not seek vaccines. And in every country, we get some vaccine scepticism,” Bill Gates said.
Bill Gates Take on Vaccines
Trump also revealed that there are leaders across the globe who are trusting the misinformation.
“You know, there were issues about vaccines being used to track people’s location, which you have to laugh about. Why, you know, how would that work? And why would anybody care to know people’s locations? So, it is, you know, it is a crazy,” Gates added.
According to Bill Gates, most of his wealth will aid in funding scientists all over the world to come up with an HIV vaccine and a TB vaccine.
Gates’ Role in Africa
He asserted that philanthropy plays a crucial role in areas where markets and governments fall short, such as vaccine development and enhancing agricultural productivity.
Moreover, Gates identified healthcare, agriculture, education, and emerging challenges like climate change and unemployment as key priorities for his foundation in Africa.
“There will be demand for jobs if people get the right health and the right education, then you’ll have, you know, the capacity that serves the market. We’ve had many people question the necessity of aid in this day and age, and whether aid breeds, you know, over-reliance on aid money, you know, to build your company,” he said.
The billionaire stated that with access to quality health and education, economic demand will naturally generate jobs.

Cuts on Aid Funding in Africa
Additionally, Bill Gates criticized recent US aid cuts, warning they could lead to higher child mortality and weakened global health systems.
Further, he stressed that philanthropists alone cannot fill the funding gap left by governments.
“I’ll make a strong case that the U.S. should stay involved in Gavi, that it should be a leader on helping with polio eradication and these HIV programs,” he said.

Bill Gates on African Leadership
While addressing over 12,000 government officials, diplomats, health workers, development partners, and youth leaders, Gates emphasized the importance of African leadership.
“By unleashing human potential through health and education, every country in Africa should be on a path to prosperity, and that path is an exciting thing to be part of,” Gates added.
Additionally, he stressed that investing in people is the surest way to drive prosperity across the continent.
