A 23-year-old bride in Bomet, Nelly Chepkoech, who cancelled her wedding hours before the event on Saturday, December 10, has defended herself from online critics.
Speaking to the press, Nelly stated that the wedding was not cancelled but postponed.
Further, she explained that when she went to church with her fiancée a day before the wedding day, the officiating pastor told them that the wedding could not take place.
She explained that according to the pastor, they had not completed processing some important documents that had to be processed before the ceremony.
“Today would have been my wedding day but yesterday we went to church, and we were told that the wedding could not take place because of some letters. But we were waiting for the day like never before,” she stated.
Bride Sends Message to Netizens Over Cancelled Weddings
At the same time, Nelly, the bride requested those spreading false news on the internet to stop, adding that she had decided to speak to stop the rumors from spreading any further.
Also, she clarified that she had not disappeared or run away from her fiancée, noting that she was home with family.
“I want to tell the people speaking on Facebook and other platforms, I have decided to speak because they have really spoken negatively.
I am home with my parents and so many other people. I have not disappeared,” she added.

Additionally, she explained that she was devasted as well from the ordeal and was still eager for her wedding day to the man she loved.
“When we were told that the wedding could not happen, everyone was crying. I am still waiting for the day we will be called back. I am very ready for that day.
“We have been preparing for this wedding since March. When everything is ready the reverend will call us back,” she explained.
Reports of Cancelled Wedding
The wedding planning committee, led by Kapsoiyo Africa Gospel Church (AGC) Pastor Clement Chalulot, received a cancelation letter from a Reverend who was to conduct the ceremony indicating that it would not continue as scheduled.
According to the letter, the cancellation was due to a misunderstanding between the two families.
Further Pastor Chalulo said the event was canceled despite the family of the groom having paid the dowry, three cows and other requirements.

“Yesterday, as by the agreement, she refused to give us her documents like ID and other requirements. She was also not willing to cooperate with us, even though her husband to be assuring us that all was well,” stated the Pastor.
At the same time, Pastor Chalulot stated that a group of messengers had been sent earlier to reconcile the two families, but the lady refused to participate in the meeting.
