Vanessa Akinyi, popularly known as Cartoon Comedian, born on November 3, 2000, in Kayole, Nairobi, is one of Kenya’s most vibrant entertainers.
She is widely celebrated as a comedian, actress, corporate MC, and musician who quickly rose to fame and became one of the most influential female comedians in the country.
Her skits, which highlighted everyday struggles in a humorous way, earned her a massive online following.
Recently, she made headlines after announcing her bold decision to leave comedy behind and pursue a career in music.
Vanessa grew up in both Kayole and Kariobangi in Nairobi. She is the lastborn in a family of three children, with her elder brothers Peter and Ben.
Education
She attended Donholm Primary School in Nairobi before proceeding to Kiambu High School.
Later, she transferred to Einstein Day School, where she sat for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Despite her passion for education, she did not get the opportunity to pursue college studies immediately after high school.

Career of Cartoon
Vanessa Akinyi, commonly known as *Cartoon* was given the stage name by her mother, a nickname that stuck as she embraced her passion for comedy.
After being encouraged by friends to try comedy shows due to her sense of humor, she began auditioning for various gigs.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, she had participated in live shows, but the lockdown led to the cancellation of most events.
In 2020, Cartoon was featured in the YouTube film series Sweet Moyo alongside Sammy Kioko, where she played his wife in a polygamous setup.
Soon after, she started creating short comedy clips inspired by real-life events. Though she faced challenges at the beginning, her best friend, Diana Daisy, supported her in producing content.
Her videos quickly went viral, gaining the attention and support of established comedians such as MCA Tricky, Eric Omondi, and Terence Creative.
Her big breakthrough, however, came when she shifted gears to music.
In 2022, she released her debut single Kamkora, which has since garnered over 1.7 million views on YouTube.
She followed it up with other tracks such as Mazoea, Acheni Jokes, Letter from Mum, and Mbona Unacheat.
In 2024, Cartoon announced that she would quit content creation and comedy to fully focus on her music career.

In 2020, she won the Newcomer of the Year award at the Africa Digital Influencer Awards (ADIA).
