The Chief of the Defense Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri and former Supreme Court of Kenya Judge Jackton Ojwang are among Kenyans who have landed new State roles after being appointed by President William Ruto.
CDF Kahariri has landed a new state role after President Ruto appointed him as the Chairperson of the Presidential Task Force on the Development of Kenya Home of Human Origins Museum and Science Park in the Lake Turkana basin.
The Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei announced the appointment in a gazette notice dated May 17, 2024.
“IT IS notified for the general information of the public that His Excellency the President has appointed Gen. Charles Muriu Kahariri-Chairperson,” read the notice in part.
Ruto Replaces General Ogolla
Koskei noted that the CDF appointment Kahariri’s means that the appointment of late General Francis Omondi Ogolla who died in a Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) helicopter crash had been revoked.

At the same time, President Ruto in the same gazette notice reappointed former Supreme Court of Kenya Judge Jackton Boma Ojwang.
Ojwang has been reappointed as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) for a period of four years.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 12 (1) (a) of the Energy Act, 1. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, re-appoint-JACKTON BOMA OIWANG as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, for a period of four (4) years, with effect from the 24th of May 2024,” said Ruto.
Following the new appointment, General Kahariri will assume the new role which was left vacant by his predecessor late CDF Ogolla.
CDF Ogolla in Lake Turkana Project
Ogolla had on March 15, 2024, been appointed by the Head of State to lead a task force which would aid in developing the Kenya Home of Human Origins Museum and Science Park in the Lake Turkana Basin.

In his appointment notice, Ruto had highlighted that Ogolla, and his team would be tasked with mapping out areas linked to the first human species, which was among the eight roles given.
According to the Turkana County Government, the Kenya Home of Human Origins project is set to add a new dimension to Kenya’s tourism sector.
“Kenya, Home of Human Origins project will open a unique touristic door that will attract tourists who want to connect with the origins of mankind.
This project is expected to open up and elevate the Lake Turkana basin and Kenya at large as a global tourist destination for both social and economic advancement,” notes the county government.
Turkana has been described as the cradle of humanity due to the discovery the Homo erectus, famously known as the “Turkana Boy”.
Other Appointments
In other appointments, the Head of State has appointed Prof. Mohamed Said Rajab as the Non-Executive Chairperson, of the Board of the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO.
Rajab will assume the new role immediately from 24th May 2024, with his appointment set for a period of three years.
In another fresh appointment, Benson Mutura Kang’ara- former Nairobi County Speaker will assume the role of the Chairperson of the Nairobi Metroploitan Area Transport Authority Board.
“I, William Samoei Ruto. President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in- Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint-BENSON MUTURA KANG’ARA to be the Chairperson of the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority Board, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 24th of May. 2024,” read part of the notice.
At the same time, Dr. NINGALA KALACHU (DR.) has been appointed to be the Chairperson of the Council of the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from May 24.
