The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change & Forestry Soipan Tuya has been listed among the 100 Most Influential African Women in 2023.
Announcing the exciting news through her social media account on December 29, the elated CS threw praises to President William Ruto acknowledging him for the accolade.
“Thank you, H.E President William Ruto for the opportunity to serve in your administration,” she said.
Notably, the extraordinary accolade is part of the Avancemedia’s list of the 100 Most Influential African Women in 2023.
Avance media is a media and public relations agency focused on creating contents for the African market.
Through its girls’ empowerment project, it launched the annual publication to highlight and celebrate astounding accomplishments of 100 women from Africa.
Furthermore, this publication presents a summary of women who have climbed the corporate ladder or started their own businesses.
It aims at recognizing women who have been at the forefront of decision making both locally & internationally.
Tuya has been at the forefront of President Ruto’s drive for climate change action since her appointment in the cabinet.
Tuya Leads Ruto’s Drive
She went on to add, “In the coming year, I pray and look forward to more successes as we step up efforts to address the global climate crisis and protection of our environment.”
Earlier in December, the Environment CS maintained that Kenya is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

She made the statement during the COP-28 Climate Change Conference in Dubai. Notably, the country has received some support for various green energy projects.
On its part, the government has taken major steps towards achieving the climate agenda.
Notably, the government declared climate change a national security threat among five other major threats in the country.
Tree Planting Day
Additionally, November 13th, was also declared a national holiday to pave way for a nationwide tree planting exercise.

“Let us start by doing this by growing a cumulative 100 million seedlings, expand to 500 million trees by Christmas this year.
Then steadily but surely progress towards the 15 billion Trees by 2032,” Tuya said ahead of the day.
President Ruto went on to preside over the inaugural of the National Tree Planting Day.
Tuya added that to meet the 15 billion targets in 10 years, Kenya needs to grow at least 1.5 billion trees each year.
“We should take up tree growing as a national duty, given the importance of trees in enhancing livelihoods,” she added.
While acknowledging her recognition, the CS dedicated it to her role under the Kenya Kwanza government in addressing the global climate crisis.
The Avance media 100 most influential Women in Africa also recognizes Presidents, Diplomats philanthropists and Board Chairs.
Tanzania President Samia Suluhu is among the other African women featured in the list.
