Linda Mwananchi and United Alternative Government have called on people of goodwill to join the formation of a People’s Forum for Electoral Preparedness, scheduled for October 9, 2026.
The initiative will be coordinated by former Chief Justice David Maraga, former Attorney General Justin Muturi and Karoli Omondi, ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The initiative was announced in a joint statement by Linda Mwananchi and the United Alternative Government on August 19.
“We are calling on people of goodwill to join us in forming a people’s forum for electoral preparedness that will be coordinated by the former Chief Justice, Honorable David Maraga, former Attorney General, Honorable Justin Muturi, and Honorable Karori Omondi on the 9th of October 2026,” the statement read.
Maraga, Muturi and Omondi Named Coordinators
According to the statement, the People’s Forum will provide a platform for citizens and other stakeholders to discuss electoral preparedness ahead of the 2027 polls.
Maraga has advocated measures to strengthen the handling of electoral disputes. In 2017, he proposed changes to the Political Parties Act to ensure disputes arising from party primaries were resolved within the required timelines.

Muturi, who previously served as Speaker of the National Assembly and Attorney General, has also been involved in Kenya’s political and constitutional affairs for several years.
The third coordinator, Karoli Omondi, will work alongside the two former state officials in coordinating the forum.
According to the joint statement, the People’s Forum for Electoral Preparedness will be held on October 9, 2026.

The announcement comes as preparations for the 2027 General Election continue. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has been undertaking activities to strengthen electoral preparedness, including engaging stakeholders on election planning.
The organizers said the forum would bring together Kenyans and other stakeholders interested in protecting the electoral process and ensuring citizens can exercise their political and constitutional rights.
Concerns Over Political Violence in Kenya
The planned forum was announced as part of a call for action over reported incidents of political violence in different parts of Kenya.

In their joint statement, the organizers said recent confrontations involving political leaders, supporters, journalists and members of the public should not be dismissed as isolated incidents.
“Given the recurring pattern of organized political violence, the allegations of possible collusion by rogue state actors and the apparent failure to prevent repeated attacks against political leaders, journalists and civilians, we call upon the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to closely monitor developments in Kenya,” read the statement in part
They called for independent investigations into reported attacks and raised concerns about the conduct and neutrality of security institutions.
The group also urged religious leaders, civil society organizations, professional bodies, lawyers, the media, youth organizations and the diplomatic community to participate in efforts to protect constitutional freedoms.
They further called on the IEBC to work with relevant institutions to ensure Kenyans can campaign, assemble and vote freely and peacefully.
The organizers also appealed to the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to monitor developments in Kenya and assess whether information relating to alleged organized political violence could warrant examination under the Rome Statute.
