The protests, that were initially against the Finance Bill 2024, are set to continue on Tuesday, July 2,2024.

In a seven-day plan issued earlier, the protesting youth asked Kenyans to of all ages to occupy all the roads in the country solidarity and sit down.

The Gen Z vowed to continue with the protests even after President William Ruto called for a conversation on X space to address their demands.

President Ruto however pledged to deal with the some of the protestors who invaded Parliament, destroyed government and looted businesses.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights announced that 39 people have been killed and 361 injured since the protests began on June 18.

The demonstrations began in the morning in Migori town with the protesters barricading roads and singing anti-government chants.

3:35pm: More police deployed to Kangemi to de-escalate the situation where protesters had earlier overpowered police.

3:10pm: Three people have reportedly been shot and injured by a private citizen during the anti-finance bill protest in Mombasa.

The Star reports that several people and police confirmed that a person opened fire at close range at the demonstrators.

2:48PM: K24 TV reporter injured by a teargas lobbed along Tom Mboya Street in Nairobi.

2:34pm: Police arrest goon who allegedly stole a printer from a shop at Imenti House in Nairobi. Traders are currently guarding their businesses from looters

2:25pm: Anti-government protesters drop empty coffins along Moi Avenue near Jevanjee Gardens. The protesters said the coffins signify their fellows that have lost their lives.

2:03pm: Police shoot an anti-government protester in Nairobi CBD.

2:00pm: Police lobby teargas to disperse protesters in Nakuru during anti-govt protests

1:50pm: Vehicles burnt outside Caffe Point in Mombasa.

1:45pm: Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Nassir addresses protesters, urges them to observe the law. He also told the police to protect the protestors from looters and thieves taking advantage of the situation.

“The youth should come and protest without the politicians. Mombasa is ours and we should not burn it down. Those who are stealing and looting have no difference with Ruto,” the governor said.

1:05pm: Police engage protesters in running battles in Nairobi CBD.

12:49pm: Police block protesters from marching to Kisumu State Lodge.

12:40pm: Protesters barricade the Nairobi – Mombasa highway near Olympic filling station at Mlolongo, Machakos County forcing motorists to use alternative routes.

12:3ppm: Police fire tear gas near Mtwapa Sub-County Hospital to disperse protesters in Kilifi County.

12:17am: Police intervene to rescue a suspected thief from lynching after he was caught by anti-government protesters in Mombasa.

12:10pm: Police officers have closed Thika road at Allsops.

12:04pm: Normalcy in Narok town as police take position in the streets.

11:50am: Kisumu protesters play football on the road as police watch. In the video, the protesters around the police while the police were seated inside the vehicle.

11:35am: Mbaraki Girls Secondary School in Mombasa sends pupils home over fears of protests.

11:10am: Police lob teargas to disperse gatherings at Moi Avenue, Nairobi as anti-government protests gain momentum in various areas.

11:07am: Protesters chant anti-government slogans during demonstrations in Mombasa.

11:03am: Kakamega still calm since morning with security personnel and police are patrolling the streets.

11:00am: Protests kick-off in Homabay, Makueni and Kajiado.

10:35am: Protests start in Kisumu County. Nakuru still remains peaceful with police stationed at State House Nakuru and the City.

10:30am: Protesters take to the streets in Mombasa. The demonstrators dismissed Ruto’s calls for dialogue and called for his resignation. Some of the businesses have remained closed with anti-riot police deployed in different parts of the town.

10:15am: Anti-government protests begin and Kisii town. Demonstrators in Kisii are calling for the resignation of President Ruto. They also accused the president of overtaxing Kenyans, lying to the people and they rejected the calls for dialogue.

9:50am: Valley Road is not as busy as usual and looks like a weekend. A lorry full of GSU officers is standing by to monitor the situation. All roads entering and exiting the State House have been closed forcing motorists to use alternative routes.

9:40am: No protests along Thika Road including around the Ruiru area, which is approximately 20 kilometers from the CBD. There is smooth flow of traffic ahead of planned protests.

9:30am: Anti-Riot Police Deployed Around Parliament & Nairobi CBD.  There is a heavy security around The Senate and National Assembly with KDF tanks and contingents of anti-riot police stationed around the premises.

7:50am: Empty streets in Nairobi CBD ahead of the planned anti-Finance Bill protests.
