The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has shut down 17 petrol stations that are selling substandard fuels.
In a notice on Monday September 30,2024, EPRA shared a list of the 17 petrol stations which were found to be selling adulterated products.
Further, the Authority gave details on the date the tests were conducted on each of the listed stations, the county where they are located, the physical stations names, nature of the none-compliance and status as from 1 July 2024 to 27 September 2024.
“During the period of July-September 2024, a total of 5,854 tests were conducted at 1,321 petroleum sites. From the tests, 1,304 (98.71%) of the sites were found to be compliant. However, tests from the Seventeen, 17 (1.29%) sites turned out to be non-compliant,” the statement from EPRA read in part.
List of Closed Petrol Stations
1.Safari Oil Station
The station is in Kajiado county, Kamalat area. It is said that the station sales Super petrol containing high Sulphur.
2.Prijam Filling Station, Mureru, Naromoru
The station is in Nyeri county, Mureru, Naromoru area. Similar as the first one it offers the sale of Super Petrol containing high Sulphur.
3.Mari Fillin Station
It is in Kiambu County, the Gathege area. It offers the sale of Diesel meant for Export. The station was reopened after paying taxes and penalties amounting to Ksh 115,990.
4.Tawa Filling Station
The station is in Makueni county Tawa area. It offers Super Petrol containing high Sulphur.
5.Lengut Filling Station
The station is in the Uasin Gishu County Lengut area. It offers the sale Diesel meant for Export and Contaminated with domestic kerosine.
6.Re-Fresh Up Energy Filling Station.
It is in the Uasin Gishu Talket area. It offers sale of Diesel adulterated with Domestic kerosine.
7.Bendera Service Station.
The station located in West Pokot County, Kapenguria area. It offers sales of Super Petrol Meant for Export and Contaminated with domestic Kerosine. The station was reopened after upgrading the product and paying taxes and penalties amounting Ksh 304,806.
8.Green Field Service Station
The Station is located in Kilifi County, Kanamai area. It offers sale of Super Petrol suspected to have been Smuggled from a neighboring county. The Super Petrol Dispensing Pumps were closed.
9.Sikhendu Filling Station
The station is in Trans Nzoia County, Sikhendu area. It offers the sale of Diesel Adulterated with Domestic kerosine.

10.Home Depo Filling Station
The Station is in Trans Nzoia County, Kiminini area. It offers the sale of Diesel meant for Export. The station reopened after paying taxes and penalties amounting to Ksh 152, 306.
11.Chombo Filling Station
It is in Elgeyo Marakwet County in the Chepkorio area. It offers the sale of Diesel meant for Export and contaminated with domestic kerosine. Additionally, it offers the sale of Diesel meant for Export.
12.Birgen Filling Station
The Station is in Narok County Mulot area. It offers the sale of Diesel containing High Sulphur.
13.Top Energy Filling Station
The station is in Kisumu County in Ombeyi Market. It offers the Sale of Super Petrol containing High Sulphur and adulterated with domestic kerosine.
14.Robinson Filing Station
The station is in Nandi County in Labuiywo area. It offers the sale of Diesel adulterated with Domestic kerosine.
15.Murinya Filling Station
The station is in Meru County Murinya Area. It offers the sale of Dieses meant for Export.
16.Murithi Elijah Filling Station
It is also located in Meru County Kipona area. It offers the sale of domestic Kerosine adulterated with non-marked fuel.
17.Suntone Service Station
It is in Busia County Bumala area. It offers the sale of Diesel adulterated with Domestic Kerosine.

Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority
EPRA is mandated under Section 92 of the Petroleum Act 2019 to monitor petroleum products offered for sale in the local market with the aim of preventing motor fuel adulteration or dumping of export bound fuels.
In this regard the Authority takes a program of continuous Monitoring of quality of petroleum motor fuels on sale, transport and storage throughout the country.
Pursuant to Regulation 15 of the Energy (Retail Facility and Licensing) Regulations 2013, the above petrol stations were found to be non- compliant.
Further, the Authority reminded the public that it maintains a hotlines number (0709366000) operational during working hours to enhance enforcement and compliance activities.

Moreover, Members of the public were asked to keep watch and report cases of suspected petroleum fuels adulterated or export dumping through the hotline above.
