The Equity Group Foundation has announced the selection of 750 outstanding 2024 KCSE candidates for its prestigious Equity Leaders Program (ELP).
In a statement dated February 17, the foundation indicated that these selected individuals would undertake a six-month internship at Equity Bank branches nationwide as they prepare to join university in 2025.

According to the statement, the cohort includes 350 Wings to Fly Scholars and Elimu Scholars who achieved grades of A and A-, 167 top-performing students from each sub-county who scored Grade A (Plain), and 233 top national scholars who earned a minimum of Grade A (Plain) with 84 points in their final exams.

During a commissioning ceremony, Equity Group Foundation Executive Chairman Dr. James Mwangi emphasized that the program is not merely about providing work experience; it also focuses on nurturing leadership skills, empowering participants to become change-makers in their communities, and equipping them with the tools necessary for success in their university studies and professional futures.

As part of the program, the interns will receive a monthly stipend during their six-month internship, with a portion of the stipend being set aside to be released to them when they transition to university, instilling a saving culture early on.
Furthermore, the foundation noted that the internship initiative helps facilitate a smooth academic transition by providing financial support for higher education.
Scholars will receive mentorship and coaching from globally experienced professionals with diverse skills to deepen their knowledge before they decide on their career paths and studies.
The ELP program has grown significantly, currently supporting 29,515 scholars studying at local and global universities.
With the addition of the new cohort of 750 scholars, the total number of beneficiaries of the Equity Leadership Program’s six-month pre-university internship now stands at 9,700.
About the Equity Leaders Program
The Equity Leaders Program (ELP), one of the initiatives under the Equity Group Foundation’s (EGF) Education and Leadership Development pillar, was founded in 1998.
Over the years, the program has significantly expanded, benefiting a total of 29,515 scholars, of whom 27,156 have successfully gained entry into local and global universities.
Among these, 970 scholars have been admitted to top global universities on fully funded scholarships, positioning them to contribute significantly to the continent’s growth and development.
The program is dedicated to empowering academically gifted young scholars. Currently, the Equity Leaders Program operates in Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, and the DRC.
The initiative aims to nurture these promising scholars through intensive mentorship, leadership development exposure, and various initiatives.
