Biography
Eugene Wamalwa is a Kenyan politician who previously served as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Defense. Before that, he held the position of Cabinet Secretary for Devolution until September 29, 2021. He has also been the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Water and Irrigation. Wamalwa is affiliated with the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition Party and was elected to represent the Saboti Constituency in the National Assembly during the 2007 parliamentary elections, serving a single five-year term. He is the leader of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).
Early Life and Education of Eugine Wamalwa
Wamalwa was born in Kitale Trans-Nzoia County, Kenya on April 1, 1969, to Senator William Wamalwa and Mama Mary Naliaka. Eugene Wamalwa was schooled in Kitale before proceeding to Gendia High School in Homa Bay for his A-levels. He later enrolled at the University of Nairobi’s Parklands Campus for a Bachelor of Law and a master’s degree in law. In between, he earned an advocate’s training diploma from the Kenya School of Law.
Eugine Professional Life
Eugene was admitted to the bar in 1995 and thereafter joined the private legal practice. Before joining the public service, one of his highlights as a practising lawyer was representing President Yoweri Museveni in the 2001 Uganda presidential election petition against opposition leader Kizza Besigye.
Political Career
Eugene entered politics following the death of his brother, Michael Wamalwa Kijana, who was the vice president and had held the Saboti MP seat. In the subsequent by-elections, Eugene contested for the seat with the little-known Republican Party of Kenya (RPK). However, he lost the election to Davies Wafula Nakitare from NARC.

After losing the 2003 by-elections, he contested the Saboti parliamentary seat again in 2007, this time running on a Ford Kenya ticket under the PNU umbrella and emerged victorious.
After serving the Saboti people as MP for a few years President Kibaki appointed him the Minister for Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs.
In addition, Eugine in 2013 showed interest as a candidate but later decided to back Musalia Mudavadi under the Amani Coalition.
Eugine Wamalwa Family and Marriage Life
Eugine is married to Lucy Musundi. It is reported that the two set a couple of goals when they were graduating from the University of Nairobi. As Eugine graduated with a Master of Law the wife Musindi was awarded first-class honours in International Studies.
According to media reports Eugine and Lucy have 10 adopted children. However, sufficient information about the family and children is not revealed.

As a career lawyer and serial entrepreneur, Wamalwa’s net worth as of September 2, 2024, is estimated to be over KSH. 700 million. Most of his wealth comes from his successful political career thus forming part of the list of 25 top richest people in Western Kenya.
