Former Royal Media Services (RMS) Group Editorial Consultant and Managing Editor Peter Opondo has been shortlisted for the position of Managing Director at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
Opondo, who has held top positions in the media industry, was among the eight candidates shortlisted for the top job at the government-owned media house.

The other candidates are Abraham Muthogo Kamau, Tabitha Mutemi, OGW, Christopher S. Kihisa (PhD) from Bungoma and Peter Njigua.
Agnes Kalekye Nguna (Mwingi), Jason K. Nyantino (Kisii) and Sogoti James (Baringo) have also been shortlisted.

The interviews will be held on Tuesday 26th March 2024.
“The venue and the time of the interview will be communicated directly to the shortlisted candidates. The candidates should be at the venue at least 15 minutes before the allocated time,” said the Corporation.

KBC Job Requirements
The shortlisted candidates must bring originals of their National Identity Card/ Passport, academic/professional certificates and transcripts and any other supporting documents and testimonials.
Candidates are also required to bring their current clearance certificates from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), a registered Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Police Clearance Certificate (DCI).
They must also have a self-declaration form duly stamped by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and a membership registration certificate from the relevant professional bodies.
KBC advertised the position in the print media and on the ITS website on February 13, 2024, and applications closed on March 5, 2024.
Peter Opondo Citizen TV Position & Roles
Peter Opondo is among the standout names in the shortlist having served as the Group Editorial Consultant at RMS from October 2015 to February 2018.
Between July 2012 and June 2013, Opondo was the managing editor at Citizen TV.
He had previously held this position between March 2009 and June 2011.
During this period, he led the TV newsroom and helped in planning and coordinating news coverage, delivering 3 main news bulletins daily.
He was also in charge of the relaunch of Citizen TV and the special coverage of the 2013 elections in Kenya.

Experience at Standard Media Group
Opondo is currently a consultant at Strategy and Communications where he produces commissioned content on media and political strategy.
He equally moderates sessions on media sustainability and innovations at the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) conventions.
He served as the editor, strategy, and Content at the Standard Media Group (SMG) between February and July 2021.
In this role he managed all broadcast content, enforcing set quality control standards.
Opondo previously served as special projects editor at KTN between November 2004 and February 2009.

Jobs at Mediamax
The veteran has also held various positions at Mediamax Network Limited where he served as the Editor-In-Chief and Head of TV and Digital for two years from April 2018 to June 2020.
Opondo served also served as the Group Managing Editor at the media house between July 2014 and August 2015.
He was the General Manager Broadcasting between July 2013 and June 2014 before being promoted to the Group Managing Editor post.
