Mombasa Anti- Corruption Court has ordered former Mandera South Member of Parliament Adan Haji Ali Sheikh, who is allegedly on the run to appear before the Court to plead to corruption charges against him.
In a statement on Monday, February 5, the Ethics and Anti–Corruption Commission (EACC) noted that the former MP is wanted for graft dealing involving Ksh 51,456,006 when he served as the county executive committee member for tourism.
“The former MP is wanted by EACC for arraignment over corrupt dealings involving Kes. 51,456,006 that he executed at the County Government of Kwale when he served as the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Tourism between 2013 and 2017,” the Commission stated.
According to EACC, the former Mandera South legislator used his hotel facility ‘Lotfa Resort Diani Limited to trade with the county government.
Furthermore, investigations revealed that Haji, his wife, Fatuma Ibrahim Roba and his son, Alibashir Adankhalif were registered as directors of Lofta Resort Limited which received a total of Ksh.51.4 million from the Kwale County Government in the period under review.

Adan Haji Deal with County Government
It is alleged that the accommodation and conference services were provided to the County Government at exaggerated costs.
The suspect is said to have never disclosed his private interest to the employer during the tendering and award process, thus engaging in a conflict-of-interest contrary to the law hence contravening sections 42 and 48 of the Anti-corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003.
EACC noted that the former lawmaker went into hiding to evade arrests after the DPP approved recommendations to apprehend and charge him.
“The suspect is believed to have gone into hiding after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in December 2023 approved recommendations of the commission to apprehend and charge him under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003,” the statement by EACC reads in part.

As part of the legal process, the charge sheet detailing the corruption allegations has been officially registered in the Mombasa Anti-Corruption Court and the former MP has been summoned to appear before it on 13th February 2023 to face the charges and plead accordingly.
Adan Ali joined the Kenya National Assembly as a Member of Parliament for Mandera South Constituency under the Jubilee party coalition.

Earlier on January 23rd, 2024, Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Mombasa Regional Office arrested 9 suspects including 6 officials of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) over graft involving a Ksh 62million tender.
The suspects were presented before the Mombasa Anti-Corruption Court following their arraignment on Wednesday, January 24 morning.
In a statement, EACC noted that the suspects allegedly executed a scheme to embezzle public funds through a tender awarded to a company they are linked to.
