Veteran Kenyan broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka ordered security to remove his niece and the former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba from the stage for chanting “Wantam” at the Machoka @50 Grand Concert.
The event was held at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi on Saturday, October 10, 2026, to celebrate the veteran journalist’s five decades in broadcasting.
In footage circulating online, Machoka is heard addressing Orwoba directly, warning her that she would have to obey him when she was with her uncle.
Addressing his niece, the broadcaster stated that he would not allow his niece to cost him his job.
“Please, Security, toa huyu msichana hapa. You can not screw up my job. Next time you are with your uncle, utajua hapa huna neno, utatii,” Ombachi stated.
As the broadcaster ordered security to take the niece off the stage, fans at the concert were heard shouting that the incident was a family beef.
Machoka’s 50-Year Broadcasting Milestone
The Machoka @50 Grand Concert featured Kenyan and international performers, including Congolese rhumba star Koffi Olomide ,Congolese singer Mbilia Bel, Cameroonian musician Sam Fan Thomas, Alicious Theluji, Les Wanyika and Kenyan group Them Mushrooms.
Additionally, the anniversary attracted prominent figures from politics, labor and entertainment, including Nairobi Senator Edwin, Central Organization of Trade Unions Secretary-General Francis Atwoli, among the high-profile guests.
The gathering brought together personalities from different sectors to recognize Machoka’s contribution to Kenyan media and his role in popularising rhumba music through the Roga Roga program on Radio Citizen and Citizen TV.

Fred Machoka and Gloria Orwoba Relations
Fred Machoka and Orwoba are related through Orwoba’s mother, who is Machoka’s sister, and the broadcaster publicly acknowledged Orwoba as his niece.
Machoka publicly spoke about receiving numerous unwanted phone calls after the controversy surrounding Orwoba and blogger Edgar Wabwire in June 2024.
Later, in February 2026, Orwoba also shared photographs from a visit to Machoka’s ranch in Isinya.
Orwoba revealed that she once approached Fred Machoka for help pursuing a career in radio presenting during a June 2026 interview.

Who Is Gloria Orwoba?
Gloria Orwoba is a Kenyan politician who previously served as a nominated senator representing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) born in May 25, 1986, in Kisii County.
She attended State House Primary School and St George’s Girls School in Nairobi before studying architecture and social work at the University of Nairobi.
Orwoba lived in Sweden from 2015 to 2019, then returned to Kenya and pursued a career in politics.
After losing the UDA primaries for the Bobasi parliamentary seat in 2022, the party nominated her to the Senate.
Orwoba attracted national and international attention in 2023 after appearing in Parliament with a visible menstrual stain on her white trousers, leading to her advocacy on menstrual stigma.
In August 2025, Parliament announced that Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi had been sworn in as senator after taking over the seat from Orwoba.
Reports indicated that the party expelled Orwoba amid allegations of disloyalty.
In April 2026, Citizen Digital reported that she was arrested while trying to enter the Senate chambers after a court ruling on her reinstatement as a UDA member.
