Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has launched a retaliatory strike against Russian forces following attacks on Ukraine.
On January 20, 2026, Ukrainian forces targeted a key Russian ammunition depot, triggering massive explosions and killing numerous soldiers, including Viktor, Sergei, and Ivan.
The forces carried out a strike on a Russian ammunition depot in occupied Debaltseve on January 20, 2026.
This attack triggered prolonged secondary explosions, captured in open-source intelligence (OSINT) videos showing fireballs and tracer fire across snowy terrain.
Human Toll Confirmed From Ukrainian Attack
Russian Telegram channels acknowledged significant casualties among servicemen present at the depot.
The posts named soldiers Viktor, Sergei, and Ivan among those killed, while also referring to other unidentified bodies.
From the message, the incident was described as a “tragedy” and urged followers to pray for the fallen soldiers.
“In loving memory of the young men who died in Debaltseve. A tragedy. Very heavy losses. May the Kingdom of Heaven receive our military friends Viktor, Sergei, and Ivan, who were killed there, and all the others who fell. There is much that could be said about this situation, but it cannot be said—at least for now,” the telegram statement read in part.

Debaltseve, captured by Russian forces in the 2015 conflict, is a key rail logistics hub in the Donetsk region.
Analysts indicate that the loss of the ammunition depot disrupts frontline resupply and amplifies the pressure from Ukraine’s ongoing drone and missile campaigns.
370 Russian Troops and 1,400 Drones Destroyed in a Week
Over the past week, Ukrainian units eliminated 370 occupying forces, destroyed or damaged 86 vehicles, 20 artillery systems, and nearly 1,400 attack drones, according to the 7th Air Assault Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In the north-western industrial zone, Ukrainian defenders actively prevented Russian forces from concentrating for assaults on key positions.
One of the priority targets for the enemy, the village of Hryshyne, remained under Ukraine’s control due to these defensive measures.
Continuous monitoring and tactical positioning have restricted the enemy’s ability to execute coordinated attacks in this area.
In urban areas, the forces maintained containment operations against Russian units. In Myrnohrad, defenders held the northern part of the city, restricting the movement of Russian troops.
Meanwhile, Russian forces were observed accumulating equipment and reinforcements in nearby areas, including Novohrodivka, south of Myrnohrad.
