Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday, October 23, 2023, left the country for Belgium on a three-day official visit.
He will be representing President William Ruto at the Global Gateway Forum hosted by the European Commission in the Capital in Brussels.
Gachagua in a statement, noted that he was accompanied by his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi on the 3-day visit.
“Tonight, accompanied by my spouse Pastor Dorcas, I have left the country for an official visit to Belgium and Germany,” he wrote.
According to the head of deputy president communication Service Njeri Rugene, the meeting aims at strengthening Kenya’s relations with the European Union.
“The Forum aims to strengthen relations between the European Union (EU) and its partners, including Kenya, in key sectors such as digital innovation, green energy, transport, healthcare and education,” she stated.

On the sidelines, the Deputy President will hold talks with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on boosting bilateral ties between Kenya and the EU.
As part of his efforts to seek better market for Kenyan coffee, the Deputy President will engage various actors.
Gachagua in Germany
The Deputy President will extend his travel to Germany for other engagements on Coffee, Climate Change, Renewable Energy, among others.
“In Germany, I will further hold discussions with leading coffee buyers to explore ways of cooperation in the revival of the sub-sector. I will also hold talks with leading coffee and tea buyers and marketers as we seek to expand the global market for our farmers” he wrote.
Further, the deputy president said that all that was in the spirit of improving the small-scale farmer in the country.

“We remain focused and determined to deliver on our promise to dignify small holder farmers on coffee, tea, and milk subsectors for the good of our beloved Nation,” he noted.
Also, Gachagua will meet the Kenyan Diaspora in Germany, at The Bayerischer Hof Hotel in Munich and the Kenyans living in Belgium, at Tangla Hotel in Brussels.
In September, the Deputy President, flew to Colombia where he cut deals to improve the coffee sector.
