President William Ruto is set to tour the volatile Mt Kenya region in a bid to pacify the hostility after he engineered and executed the ouster of his deputy Rigathi Gachagua. The development cum political tour comes in the wake of a noisy purge that has seen Ruto kick out outright and perceived sympathizers of Gachagua.
In the latest changes particularly in government and Parliamentary leadership, Ruto has cemented his grip on power after joining hands with the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in a broad-based deal.

On Thursday, March 20, ahead of the tour, Ruto met a section of Central Kenya leaders at State House. According to the head of state, the meeting focused on the progress made in ‘coffee, tea and dairy farming, infrastructure development, affordable housing and fresh produce markets, among others.’
“Constant consultation with elected leaders provides the best platform for deliberation on and consequently implementing transformative development programmes that benefit the citizens of our country,” said Ruto.

He added, “On this front, we are truly on course on our programmes anchored under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.”
Following the meeting after Ruto reshuffled his government, Gatanga Member of Parliament Edward Muriu penned a letter to the President, faulting his style of politics and the betrayal of the mountain. Here is the letter:

Muriu Letter to Ruto
Your Excellency William Ruto. Welcome to The Mountain though you did not invite Itungatis to this preparatory meeting because your court jesters and charlatans have advised you that itungatis are your enemies.
To the contrary, your honorable guests are your enemies. They misled you to impeach Gachagua as a panacea to solve all the Kenyans problems.

It turned out you lost 49% of your voting bloc and the problems are increasing by the day.
Your guests will not tell you that since you visited the mountain last year in the month of August and September, not a single kilometer of road has been built and the mountain is angry for that lie.
The machines which were assembled when you launched the Mau Mau Roads followed you when you left the site. Your guests will not tell you that there is nothing new in the mountain to launch but would like you to launch a transformer here and there as they are easier to mobilize in short notice.
My advice when you come is that you do not mention any leader, particularly Rigathi Gachagua.
The pain of betrayal is still very raw and deep. Do not mention your deal with Raila and how happy you are with it.
To the Mountain people they voted for you to the man. You have discarded their leaders who supported you, removed them from the cabinet, parliamentary committee and replaced them with Raila’s people.
To the mountain people it’s betrayal and it stinks to high heaven. Do not mention SHA, Affordable Housing, Hustler Fund – It will attract booing as the people of the mountain take it as a lie.
Do not mention anything to do with abduction and killing of young people – the mountain people have buried their fair share, and the pain and bitterness is still deep in their hearts.

Avoid the word corruption as the mountain people have come to associate the same with your government.
Your guests will not tell you that thousands of university students are at home as the new university funding has failed – do not mention it.
Avoid the issue of unemployment for the youth and the majuu jobs. It’s a con trap – thousands have lost their money to con artists.
Furthermore, who want to be a slave in the Arab countries. Your guests are there for their stomachs, give them Ksh1 million each to go and mobilize but bounce what they tell you with my simple advice. You will come to thank me later.”
