The government, through the National Treasury, has issued a directive to suppliers following the rollout of the end-to-end electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system to all procuring entities at both the National and County Government levels.
In a notice dated Wednesday, June 25, the National Treasury urged suppliers to self-register on the e-GP portal.
“Suppliers, Contractors, and Consultants are required to self-register on the e-GP portal, which can be accessed at www.egpkenya.go.ke,” the notice read in part.

In the notice, the National Treasury indicated that the end-to-end electronic Government Procurement system is part of public finance management reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency and value for money in public procurement.

According to the Treasury, the rollout of the e-GP system is in line with the directive from President William Ruto during his State of the Nation address on November 21, 2024, which mandated the National Treasury to implement the e-GP system by the first quarter of 2025.
Furthermore, the government asserts that the implementation of the e-GP system will lead to reduced costs for goods, works, and services.
It also aims to increase transparency in procurement processes, improve efficiency by shortening procurement cycle times, maximize value for money, and enhance the confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity of transactions between procuring entities and suppliers.

The e-GP system will also standardize procurement procedures across the government and improve procurement information management, facilitating planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
During his State of the Nation Address on November 21, 2024, President William Ruto directed the National Treasury to ensure the e-GP system is fully operational by the end of the first quarter of 2025 to combat corruption and promote transparency in public procurement.

Ruto stressed that only procurements conducted through this digital platform would be sanctioned, aligning with the International Monetary Fund’s reform agenda for transparent public spending.
“I direct the National Treasury to conclude the rollout of the e-GP system by the end of the first quarter of 2025,” he stated.
“This system will ensure transparency, minimize human interaction, reduce fraud, and guarantee competitive pricing in government procurement. Going forward, only procurements conducted through this digital platform will be approved.”

The President criticized the Treasury for nearly a decade of delays in implementing the system, stressing that it would significantly minimize human interaction, reduce fraud, and ensure competitive pricing in government tenders.
The e-GP system, which cost Ksh560 million, is expected to save billions annually by curtailing procurement fraud, which reportedly consumes about one-third of Kenya’s annual budget.
The system was officially launched on April 7, 2025, with a full transition expected by July 1, 2025, following a three-month testing period.
