The Pharmacy and Poison Board (PPB) Kenya has warned the public against using paracetamol oral solution 120mg/5ml and 60 mls.
In a statement on Wednesday, September 20, the board has asked Kenyans to stop its use and distribution immediately.
At the same time, Kenyans have been directed to return any dose of the drug to the nearest healthcare facility.
According to the board, the drug manufactured in Kenya by Biopharma limited, had raised several concerns of its quality by its users.
When they conducted further investigations, the board affirmed that the paracetamol brand has failed to meet the prescribed market authorization.
“In response to these concerns, the PPB upon investigations, indeed confirmed that the product FAILED to meet the prescribed market authorization requirements.
“It has initiated mandatory recall of the product by the manufacturer in line with Section 3A(i) of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act,” the statement seen by The Kenya Times read in part.

Directions to Public over paracetamol
Following the discovery, the PPB asked all pharmaceutical outlets, healthcare facilities, healthcare professionals and the public to take the following immediate action.
Quarantine the Product. The board has directed that the above-mentioned stop all further distribution, sale, issuing or use of the said paracetamol.
Return the product. The board has also directed that the drug is returned to the nearest health facility. Further, the facilities have also been asked to then surrender the drug.
Report any suspected cases. At the same time, the board has asked the public to report any cases of reactions to the drug to healthcare facilities.

Paracetamol Uses and Side Effects
Paracetamol is a commonly used medicine that can help treat pain and reduce a high temperature (fever). It’s typically used to relieve mild or moderate pain.
It is used in different forms including tablets, capsules, suppositories, soluble powders and liquids.
The Ministry of Health advice that it should be taken as prescribed by a physician after evaluation of the medical history of a patient.
