Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on 15 July, launched a placement program for Teacher Training Colleges that will see at least 13,000 trainees enroll.
The Ministry of Education had on July 11, on sent a letter to the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) reviewing the cluster points requirement for the diploma in primary teacher training.
“As you are aware for the Primary and Pre-primary Diploma Teacher Training Colleges in-take for Pre-service training supposed to take place in September 2023.
Moreover, the ministry revised the entry requirements to a minimum mean grade of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education C (plain) without cluster combination.
“In this regard you are required to advertise for application of the 2023 Pre-service intake for DPTE and DETCE and place the successful applicants accordingly,” the letter stated.
“The minimum requirements are a mean grade of C (plain) in the KCSE examination. There are no additional subject’s requirements,” the CS announced as he presided over an education and career guidance day at Kangaru School in Embu
According to the Ministry of Education, applicants are to fill 13,439 slots in the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) and Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) programmes.

KUCCPS slots for Teacher Training Colleges
According to the press release, it stated that for the second year, it will handle the placement of trainers to the 32 public teachers training colleges.
KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome, who was present at the same forum with the CS Machogu said they will close the portal won 28 July.
“This opportunity is for qualified KCSE certificated holders including non-Kenyan citizens who sat for the exam in 2022 or earlier until the year 20,” said Dr. Wahome
Additionally, the government revealed that 11,358 slots are available for the DPTE programs and 2,081 for the DECTE course.
Previously, candidates were to have a C (plain) in English and Kiswahili, Mathematics and any of the humanities and sciences and a KCSE mean grade of C (plain).
