Head of Public Service Felix Koskei has urged Kenyans to embrace a stylish and casual dress code for the next seven days.
In a statement on Tuesday, December 5, Koskei asked the public to embrace the dress code in line with upcoming Africa YouthConnekt Summit and Jamhuri Day celebrations.
According to him, the dress code could include national team jerseys from teams including the national football team or the rugby team.
“Starting tomorrow until Jamhuri Day, let’s embrace dress down, stylish and presentable casual wear, amplifying the Africa YouthConnekt Summit vibes that we’re proudly hosting from Dec. 8-11,” he said.
“Show your spirit by donning a jersey from your favorite Kenyan or African team – whether it’s Athletics, Harambee Stars, Shujaa, or Malkia.Let’s rock those jerseys with pride!”
According to Koskei, government officials are also expected to shift from their suits and official wear for the casual and stylish wear.
Kenya is set to host Africa YouthConnekt Summit 2023 edition under the theme “Youth innovating a borderless renaissance” at the Kenyatta International Convention Center.
The YouthConnekt Africa, scheduled to start from December 8 to 11th, is an African home-grown solution to support the implementation of relevant homegrown initiatives to empower youth.
As a Pan-African platform, the Summit seeks to empower young people through enhancing their knowledge and skills.
Over 20,000 young innovators, according to the organizers, are expected to take part in the summit.

Felix Koskei asks Kenyans to prepare for Jamhuri Day
The Summit will also serve as a precursor to the 60th celebrations of Jamhuri Day- the day when Kenya became a fully independent republic.
“Kicking off the 2023 Youth Konnekt Africa Summit, a week-long meeting point of our youth to come together and share ideas, culminating in Kenya at 60 Jamhuri Day celebrations on December 12th,” he stated.
His appeal for Kenyans to observe the dress code, however, drew criticism from some Kenyans who raised concerns about the high cost of living.
“It will be good if you supplied the same …..the price of a Kenyan Jersey is equivalent to 10 packets of Unga which is a priority in this economy,” a Facebook user named Nelson Mbugua stated.
“I think you have lost touch with reality on the ground. Wake up from your slumber. Who feels the vibes for this nation anymore?” another user on the platform stated.
