The government plans to roll out mass registration of Kenyans to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
The Ministry of Health will lead the mass registration exercise that was scheduled to commence across all the 47 counties.
In a bid to mobilize Kenyans to register the ministry posted a detailed guide on their X account asking citizens to take charge of their health.
Additionally, the ministry assured that, registration can be conveniently done through various channels: a self-registration USSD code *147#, the official website (http://sha.go.ke), and through the assistance of Community Health Promoters. Here is a guide on how to register.
SHIF Registration Guide
How to register through the website:
1 Click on the Social hospital authority (SHA)link.
2 Click on the register button and start the process
3 Take a few minutes to go through the policies, instructions for self -onboarding and the terms conditions before continuing to the next step.

4 Enter, your Identity and contact details (ID number, your names, KRA pin) & save.
5 Confirm your details.
6 Upload your recent passport photo and save
7 Fill the boxes below, indicating type of employment and marital status.
8 Set-up your personal PIN
9 Confirm your details and submit accurate data required.
Registering Through USSD Code
1 Dial *147# on your mobile device then proceed to accept the SHA terms and conditions.
2 Enter your Kenyan the identity card number and first name for verification. Then proceed by confirming your details.
3 Enter all your details accurately and await a confirmation message to confirm you registration once done.
4 After, this you will receive a text message informing you that your application has been submitted successfully.

Registering in a Huduma Center /SHA agent
1 Visit your nearest Huduma center and carry your national ID to facilitate the process.
2 An SHA agent will capture all necessary personal information, including civil status and details of dependents where necessary.
3 Preview the details of the application that you have provided. If the information entered is correct, the application will be submitted, biometrics captured, and application is complete.
