Ruth Nyambura Mbaraga, mother to Ian Njoroge, has defended his son and poked holes in the accusations against her son.
Ian was arrested on June 2 after a video of him beating a traffic police officer went viral on social media.
Speaking to the media, Nyambura said his firstborn son was brought in a religious way and couldn’t have beaten the officer without a good reason.
“I brought him up by myself and I dedicated him to Church, and he is a member of the youth service at Deliverance Church Donholm, that is where we fellowship. I have never seen him agitated; something must have happened to that boy,” she said.
The mother revealed that she had just returned from a trip that Sunday night and was not aware of what happened.
How Flying Squad Arrested Ian Njoroge
She found police officers at her house who showed her the trending video and accused Ian Njoroge of being a robber and a murderer.
“All I saw was flying squad cars outside my gate. In shock, I went inside, and I found police men folding my boy down. When I asked why, they showed me a video and told me he was a murderer, a robber and he wanted to kill that man,” Nyambura said.
“I was surprised because I have brought him up in a Christian way and he went to a good school, Sunshine Secondary, He has grown with manners, he is obedient and very polite at home.”
Ksh10K Bribe
Besides, Nyambura said the police officer had demanded for Ksh10,000 bribe from her sone who couldn’t raise the cash.
The mother admitted that made a U-turn since he was rushing to bring the car back home before church time.
“He told me he was asked for Ksh10,000 which he didn’t have. He said he was going to call his friends so that they can raise Ksh5,000 for him Ksh5,000 but the police refused,” she said.
“When he was around there some matatu guys came and told the police to give him the key. Because he has really pleaded with the policeman, he became agitated.”

Sword & Machette Claims
Additionally, she said that was her car and dismissed police claims that there was a sword or a machete.
“There are allegations that he had a sword in the car. That’s the car I use, and I am lady who will I attack with a sword?” she asked.
He Isn’t a Thief
Nyambura also refuted claims that Ian stole a police communication device, maintaining that he was not a thief.
“If he had that sword, why didn’t he run with it and stab that policeman within that scuffle. Using the videos we saw, where did he take walkie talkie, they are saying he stole? My boy is not a thief,” she said.
However, she apologized for her son’s action arguing that beating a police officer was not the right call.
“I want to apologize because what he did was not right, he was not supposed to beat that,” she said.

Bloggers Peddling Rumors
She warned bloggers and Kenyans for peddling rumors about the arrest and occurrence of events.
“Kenyans please it is very wrong to say things that you don’t know. How can you say he was arrested at his girlfriend’s house; I am his mother. Stop blogging what you don’t know, it is good to get down to the truth,” Nyambura said.
Ian was arraigned and charged with robbery with violence traffic obstruction, carrying excessive passengers, and failing to follow lawful orders.
