The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has addressed reports circulating on social media alleging that at least 2 million votes will be removed from the voter register ahead of the next elections.

The reports, purportedly from IEBC Chairperson-designate Erastus Ethekon, claimed that the commission would remove over 2 million ghost voters from the register ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to a viral post shared across social networks that has since been flagged, Kiambu County has the largest concentration of ghost voters, followed by Meru, Nairobi, and Nyeri.

However, IEBC has refuted these claims and labelled the post as fake.

The Commission clarified that the information did not originate from the chairperson or any member of the Commission.

“Please note that the Commission currently neither has a chairperson nor members,” IEBC stated.
