The application window for the 2024 Japan Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Scholarship for training Kenyan teachers is now open.
Japan’s Embassy in Kenya in a statement announced that the deadline for the application will be on February 9.
Further, the Embassy explained that interested applicants can download the free application forms found on their website studyinjapan.go.jp/en/smap-stopj.
“All applications must be submitted to the Embassy of Japan in Kenya no later than 4:30pm on Friday, 9th February 2024,” said the Embassy.
“The government of Japan offers the teachers training scholarship to students who are interested in training in Japan. For inquiries kindly write to scholarships@nb.mofa.go.jp,” sadi the Embassy.
About Japan MEXT
MEXT Japan offers scholarships to international teachers who would like to carry out research on school education in Japan.
This research targets teachers from countries that have diplomatic relations with Japan and is carried out at designated universities in Japan.

What does the scholarship cover?
According to reports, MEXT provides tuition fees and an allowance of 143,000 yen (Ksh.153,000 per month paid after arrival in Japan.
It also provides a supplemental regional allowance of between 2,000- and 3,000-yen (Ksh.2140 or 3,200) yen per month added to the monthly scholarship amount for grantees studying or conducting research in specifically designated regions.
Beneficiaries will also be given an economy class travel to and from Kenya to Japan.
How to apply
Fill in the application form at the website and submit the nearest Japanese embassy or consulate general.
“Please be sure to thoroughly read through the Application Guidelines before submitting the necessary documents for your application. When sending hard copies, please use paper clips only, no staples.”
The first screening will then take place at the embassy, after which successful applications are forwarded to MEXT in Japan.

Required Documents
The following documents are required during the application;
1.Application form
2.Placement Preference Application Form
3.Certified grade transcript for each academic year from the last university/ teacher training school attended.
4.The diploma from the last university/ teacher training school attended
5.Certificate of employment
6.Recommendation letter from the immediate supervisor at work
7.Medical certificate.
