Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has decided to attend Azimio’s running mate interview.
In his letter to the Azimio One Kenya Running Mate Advisory Panel, the wiper boss is to appear before the panel on Tuesday, May 10.
“His Excellency Hon. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka SC, hereby states that he has decided to honour the invitation to attend interviews for the Azimio One Kenya Running mate position that will be conducted by the panel of eminent persons,” the letter states.
Mr. Musyoka had previously refused to be subjected to any interview in his bid to deputize Azimio’s flag bearer, Raila Odinga in the August 9 polls.
“This issue is beginning to weigh heavily on me. I find it almost unacceptable discussing it. …. If this issue is solved earlier, it will give some of us the impetus to campaign,” Kalonzo said.
The wiper leader while addressing Sultan Hamud and Machakos residents on Thursday last week, said he would not face the selection panel. He claimed that he respected the panel but due to his qualifications he did not see the need for him being interviewed.
He continued that: “I said in due respect that no, I will not appear for interview.”
Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance council secretary general Junet Mohamed had earlier on explained why the alliance must vet the person that will deputize Raila in the August 9 polls.
Junet stated that that the key reason for vetting potential aspirants is to avoid ending up with someone like deputy president William Ruto.
Besides, while commenting on the issue of Kalonzo’s interview, Deputy President William Ruto said that subjecting the Wiper boss to a humiliating running mate interview was impunity. He insisted that all leaders deserved to be respected.
