The Murang’a County Government has announced a new round of recruitment under its flagship Murang’a Youth Service program, offering thousands of young people an opportunity for short-term employment, skills training, and financial support.
According to a public notice, the countywide recruitment drive will take place on May 30, 2026, starting at 9.00 am, at multiple venues across all sub-counties.
The initiative, now in its ninth cohort, is part of ongoing efforts by Governor Irungu Kang’ata’s administration to tackle youth unemployment through structured employment and empowerment programs.
Murang’a Youth Service Requirements
Similar recruitment drives have been carried out in previous years, with thousands of young people benefiting from earlier cohorts of the programme.
The Murang’a Youth Service programme runs for about three months and combines paid community work with vocational training in technical fields.
Participants are mainly engaged in activities such as urban cleaning, environmental conservation, public sanitation and other community-based projects.
After this phase, they are enrolled in training at local vocational centres where they acquire hands-on technical skills.
Applicants are required to physically present themselves at designated recruitment centres within their local areas on the specified date.
The programme mainly targets young people aged between 18 and 35 years, with priority given to unemployed residents of Murang’a County.
In previous intakes, no high academic qualifications have been required, making it accessible to school leavers and those without formal training.
Successful candidates receive a daily stipend of about Ksh400 during the service period, with Ksh300 paid directly to the youth and Ksh100 allocated to a parent or guardian to promote accountability and family support.
The county has also maintained that the selection process remains transparent, with applicants required to present themselves at designated centres within their local areas for consideration.
