Kawira Mwangaza Breaks Silence After Her Brother Was Charged in Sniper’s Case

The governor pinned an appeal to the media, asking them to cease victimizing the family with allegations.

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has broken silence following the charges pressed against her brother by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) with the murder of blogger Daniel Muthiani, alias Sniper.

In a statement on Friday, January 19, the governor explained that her family was seeking to express its stance on the ongoing probe on the murder.

“My family and I have released a statement this afternoon, expressing our stance on the ongoing public interest matter of seeking justice for the deceased,” read part of the statement.

According to Mwangaza, the family opted to maintain silence during the investigations to avoid interfering with the process.

However, the governor noted that the family was concerned with how the public interest matter of seeking justice for sniper has been politicized.

“It is dismaying to witness such a sensitive matter being politicized for political expediency,” said Mwangaza.

The governor further went on to state that her family’s hands are clean, adding that they ardently desire for justice to be served impartially across the board.

Mwangaza on the media

On the other hand, the governor pinned an appeal to the media, asking them to cease victimizing the family with unsubstantiated allegations.

“As a family, we request bloggers and the media to cease victimizing and slandering us based on unfounded and unsubstantiated allegations,” Mwangaza added.

Mwangaza also requested the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to release a comprehensive report on the investigations around the murder.

“To safeguard the integrity of my office, I request DCI and other investigating agencies to release a comprehensive report on the outcome of their investigations at the Governor’s official residence,” stated Mwangaza.

The statement comes a day after the ODPP found sufficient ground to charge the governor’s brother Governor with the murder of Sniper.

Kawira Mwanagaza’s Brother charged

In a statement on Thursday, January 18, ODPP detailed that the governor’s brother Murangiri Kenneth Guantai alias Tali and Vincent Mureithi Kirimi alias Supuu will be arraigned before the High Court.

The two were among five suspects who were in police custody over the murder of the popular Meru political blogger.

“The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) forwarded an inquiry file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for perusal and advice.

“Upon thorough analysis of the facts, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to sustain the charge of murder against Vincent Mureithi Kirimi alias Supuu and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai alias Tali,” the statement from the DPP read in part.

Further, the ODPP noted that it filed a filed miscellaneous application against five other suspects which are pending before Kibera Law Courts.

“The DPP shall upon completion of the investigations issue appropriate directions. The ODPP undertakes to prosecute the matter expeditiously,” added the statement.
