Two Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers have been apprehended after allegedly detonating hand grenades in a bar in Bomet County.
According to a police report, the two officers were arrested at Daima Bar and Restaurant in Sotik by officers from the area after blowing up the bar on Friday, November 10.
Additionally, the police officers recovered four hand grenades from a bag that belonged to one off the suspects.
As such, the suspects are being held at Mutarakwa police station waiting to be arraigned in court.
“Today at around 0600 hours the chairman of Chebole Trading Center notified the police that there were 2 loud sounds suspected to be gunshots within the trading centre,” the police report read in part.

Police Narrate How KDF Suspects Were Arrested
Further, the police statement explained that they were tipped off by the Chairman of the local business community after the residents heard a loud bang from the bar, which was in the trading center.
Officers dashed to the bar and conducted a thorough search. They then recovered a black bag that contained four hand grenades and other personal belongings.
In addition, other items recovered include grenade pins, that the police indicated could have been from the detonated grenades.
“A search was conducted in the bar and two grenade pins were recovered suspected to be from grenades that caused the explosion sounds,” added the report.
However, no casualties were reported.

In a separate incident in February 2023, a police officer in Awendo was arrested for shooting dead his colleague.
Then, Police commander Heasu Ochorokodi stated that the suspect shot dead his colleague using an AK-47 within the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit armory area in Awendo Sub County.
In addition, Ochorokodi noted that the bullet entered through the right side of the chest and exited through the left rib.
He said the officer was rushed to Rapcom hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
