Veteran journalist, Ken Mijungu has confirmed his exit from KTN after four years with Standard Media Group.

In a statement shared online on Wednesday, February 5, Mijungu said it was time to find something else to do in his profession.

“A good dancer knows when to exit the stage! 4 years of absolute adrenaline and nothing but the best; as unpredictable as it was, it is time to find something else to do when I still can,” Mijungu said.

“Forever grateful to God, my colleagues at Standard Group PLC and KTN News. Adios!”

The journalist joined the Mombasa road-based station in December 2020. He has 13 years of experience having started off at K24 TV, (Media Max) in 2008, CCTV Africa now CGTN, NTV Kenya and now KTN NEWS Kenya.

Education and Career

After graduating in 2007, Mijungu started working at MediaMax Network Ltd, K24TV, in February 2010 for a period of three years and nine months. He took on roles such as brand anchor for business talk, news desk reporter, and talk show host.

After a year and three months, Mijungu transitioned to Nation Media Group, in February 2013 where he served as a senior reporter for seven years.

One of his notable achievements at NTV was hosting the Sidebar show, where he became well-known for his hard-hitting interviews, including one with President William Ruto when he was the then deputy president.

He went for a three-year break after being fired from the Kimathi Street-based station before making a comeback in 2020 as a news editor and anchor at Standard Group.

Through a tweet, Mijungu said it was summed up in a two-page letter of termination but thanked the media house for the opportunity to work with them.

“The axe fell NTV newsroom, and I was on its way. 7 years in those corridors summed up in a two-page letter of termination,” he wrote back then.

“We live to fight another day. Thanks to God, He remains the greatest, thank you @ntvkenyafor the opportunity and thank you for always staying tuned.”

However, sources have disclosed that Mijungu is set to land a job at Cape Media, the firm that owns TV47 and Radio 47.
