Days after veteran journalist Ken Mijungu announced his exit from KTN, where he had worked for four years with Standard Media Group, he has joined Cape Media Limited’s TV47.

Cape Media unveiled Mijungu as their new staff on Friday, February 7. The media house also revealed that the news anchor would commence his work in mid-February.

“It’s official! Cape Media is happy to announce that Ken Mijungu will be joining the TV47 team, on the same day the station announced that TV 47 will be moving from Channel 268 to Channel 274, on DSTV from February 12, 2025,” read the statement in part.

“These come as part of the plans to make TV 47 Bigger, Better and Bolder!”

TV47 also posted an image of Mijungu holding a placard that read: “Same channel, same guy, just a better station! Welcome to the home of untold stories, bigger, better, bolder. Now on SSTV Channel 274.”

This comes after the journalist on February 5 confirmed his exit from KTN after four years with the Media house.

In a statement shared online, Mijungu said it was time to find something else to do in his profession.

Mijungu was a News Editor/Programs Editor, News Anchor and Current affairs talk show host at Standard Group Plc – KTN News Kenya.

“A good dancer knows when to exit the stage! Four years of absolute adrenaline and nothing but the best—as unpredictable as it was. It’s time to find something else to do while I still can,” the journalist wrote on his X page.

“Forever grateful to God, my colleagues Standard Group, and KTN News. Adios.”

Mijungu’s departure from KTN follows the recent exit of another prominent journalist from the Standard Media Group, Eric Latiff, just a month prior.

Mijungu’s path to journalism is an interesting one. A trained lawyer by profession, he holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Moi University, which he earned in 2007, and attended Maseno School from 1998 to 2001 for his secondary education.

Mijungu Professional Career

He joined the Mombasa Road-based station in December 2020. Mijungu has 13 years of experience, having started off at K24 TV (Media Max) in 2008, then moved to CCTV Africa (now CGTN), NTV Kenya, and finally KTN NEWS Kenya.

He has also contributed to several international media outlets including BBC, Aljazeera and CNN.

After graduating in 2007, Mijungu began his career at MediaMax Network Ltd, K24 TV, in February 2010, where he worked for three years and nine months. During this time, he took on roles such as brand anchor for business talk, news desk reporter, and talk show host.

In December 2012, he joined CCTV (now CGTN) Africa as a reporter, covering high-profile assignments like the Mpila military base explosion in Congo Brazzaville and the London conference in Somalia.

After a year and three months, Mijungu transitioned to Nation Media Group in February 2013, where he served as a senior reporter for seven years.

He took a three-year break after being fired from the Kimathi Street-based station, making his return in 2020 as a news editor and anchor at Standard Group.
