The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced temporary closure of Nakuru- Eldoret Road (A8) road following the destruction by storm water on Thursday May 2 morning.
In a statement, KeNHA indicated that the closure of the road was at Timboroa market.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority regrets to notify the public of the closure of Nakuru – Eldoret (A8) Road at Timboroa Market,” KeNHA said in a statement.
“This follows the destruction by storm water this morning which left a section of the road exhibiting signs of a possible collapse.”
Motorists have been rerouted to diversions within Timboroa area.
All road users were requested to exercise caution, avoid overlapping and follow directions from traffic marshals to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
KeNHA has temporary closed various roads due to the ongoing heavy rains that have resulted in floods across the Country.
The heavy rains have left hundreds displaced, others lost lives and roads rendered impassable.

According to Interior Ministry, as of May 2, the ongoing floods have led to the death of 188 individuals while 125 people have been reported injured.
90 persons are currently missing while an approximate 165,500 persons have been displaced and 33,100 households and 1,967 schools have been affected.
Roads KeNHA Has Closed in the Country
The authority on May 1 closed the Kedong Ranch – Suswa Road after the rains caused heavy debris and siltation for over two kilometre stretch of the road.
Aside that, KeNHA also informed the public of a temporary closure of the Thika Superhighway, at the Kahawa Sukari drift between Kahawa Barracks and Kenyatta University, for Thika Bound traffic.
Additionally, KeNHA closed the Athi River – Namanga Road (A2) at Kimalat area. This was as a result of flooding occasioned by an overnight heavy downpour that led River Kimalat to burst its banks.

On April 30, KENHA announced the closure of Oletepesi – Magadi (B19) Road after the occurrence of flash floods in several sections of the road due to heavy downpour.
Besides, KURA also announced the partial closure of three major roads in Nairobi and Kiambu following the heavy rains experienced on the night of April 30, 2024.
The affected roads included Enterprise Road, Eastern bypass and Thika bypass.
