The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced traffic disruption along Mombasa Road.
In a statement dated August 1, 2025, KeNHA advised motorists to exercise caution, especially those traveling from Nairobi to Athi River via Mombasa Road.
KeNHA Announces Traffic Disruption Along Mombasa Road
According to the authority, the traffic disruption is due to the interception of an overloaded truck blocking one side of the road.
The authority has stated that the Axle Load Enforcement Highway Unit Police are currently on-site managing the situation.
Additionally, an accident has occurred at Maanzoni along the same route, further obstructing traffic.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution and cooperate with traffic marshals on site while the incidents are being cleared.

Traffic Disruption on Major Road for Construction
At the same time, the authority announced a four-month closure of a section of the Mwingi–Ukasi (A3) Road to facilitate construction works.
In a public notice shared on July 25, 2025, the agency stated that the Mwingi–Ukasi (A3) Road will be fully closed at KM 39+400 (Kwa-Vii) from Monday, July 28, 2025, to Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
“This is to allow for the construction of a box culvert, and motorists are therefore advised to use the designated diversion as indicated in the diversion plan,” said KeNHA Acting Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli.

Traffic Management Plan
To minimize the impact of the road closure, KeNHA has implemented a comprehensive traffic management strategy. The plan includes clearly marked diversion routes for vehicles heading toward both Mwingi and Ukasi.
Motorists are encouraged to adhere to road signs and follow the guidance of traffic marshals and police officers who will be deployed around the affected area for the duration of the construction works.
Additionally, the authority announced that a section of the Thika-Garissa Road will experience a traffic disruption for 106 days.
The Kavenge (Mbakini) Bridge near the Mbakini Centre section of the Thika-Garissa (A3) Road will experience traffic disruption from Saturday, July 26 to Saturday, November 8, 2025.
According to the authority, this is to allow for maintenance and rehabilitation works on the bridge girders and the deck.
