The Kenya Airways (KQ) has given an update on the reported global mass IT outage affecting airlines, television and radio stations, banks among other businesses worldwide.
In statement on Friday, July 19, Kenya Airways said the outage has affected its booking system and informed customers to expect slow service delivery.
“We are currently experiencing a system outage that has affected our booking system as a result of a global system outage. Customers are advised to expect slower than usual service as we implement our Business Continuity Plan,” the statement read in part.
The Airline apologized for the disruptions stating that it will inform the customers once the issue has been fixed.
Kenya Airways Advise
Meanwhile, customers have been directed customers to visit KQ booking offices for help.
“Customers can visit our booking offices to get assistance. We apologize for any inconveniences caused. We will share further updates once the issue is resolved,” Kenya Airways said.
Global IT Outage
The airlines’ announcement comes after a mass global outage was reported, affecting banks, airlines, telecommunications companies, TV and radio broadcasters, and supermarkets in several countries.
An IT outage was reported in the United States (U.S.), affecting its major airlines, including American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines.
The outage has also been reported in India, New Zealand, Germany, Australia, Spain, Turkey, France, Scotland and the UK.
Australia’s National Cyber Security Coordinator stated that the country experienced a large-scale technical outage affecting a number of companies and services across the country.
“Our current information is this outage relates to a technical issue with a third-party software platform employed by affected companies,” the agency said.
Reports indicate that the outage might be affecting Windows PCs globally. It affected Sky News studios in the UK, which were unable to broadcast live TV on the morning of Friday, July 19.
It has also been reported that the issue might be related to the US-based cybersecurity provider CrowdStrike. The company’s Falcon sensor is installed on many business computers to gather security data.

CrowdStrike Statement
In a statement after the outage, CrowdStrike acknowledged that it is aware of reports of crashes on Windows hosts related to the Falcon sensor.
It outlined some of the symptoms, including hosts experiencing a bugcheck or blue screen error related to the Falcon sensor.
“Our engineering teams are actively working to resolve this issue, and there is no need to open a support ticket. Status updates will be posted below [on the website] as we have more information to share, including when the issue is resolved,” the company said.
Affected Airlines Worldwide
Amid ongoing travel disruptions, Germany’s Berlin Airport has reported delays to check-in due to a “technical fault.”
Similarly, Spain’s airport authority, AENA, overseeing major airports like Madrid and Barcelona, warned of potential delays as its staff work to resolve the issues.
Air France, the nation’s flag carrier, has also faced operational disruptions, although flights already in the air remain unaffected.
London’s Gatwick Airport is equally experiencing delays at check-in and security due to global Microsoft issues.

Additionally, Turkish Airlines said it was experiencing problems with ticketing, check-in and reservations. “Our teams are working diligently to resolve the issue,” the airline said.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines reported that the outages are “making flight handling impossible,” while Scotland’s Edinburgh Airport noted that disruptions are causing “longer than usual wait times” for passengers.
Similarly, Prague Airport indicated that issues have impacted its global check-in system, leading to flight delays.
Ryanair also confirmed a network disruption and advised passengers to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled departure time.
