Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has urged East Africa Community to support Raila Odinga‘s candidacy for the African Union Chairmanship at the ongoing EAC Ministerial Meeting in Zanzibar.
Mudavadi urged East African Community member states to back Odinga, citing his ability to represent the EAC effectively and his strong qualifications for the AUC role.
“We believe and are certain that this is the time for our region to produce the chairperson who will be at the helm of the continental leadership. I urge all member states to keenly scrutinize Odinga’s candidacy so that we can speak with one voice,” Mudavadi said.
Drawing attention to Odinga’s track record and commitment to advancing Africa’s interests globally, Mudavadi emphasized the importance of the EAC making a unified decision to support Odinga’s candidacy.
Further, he highlighted Kenya’s interests in trade, investment, and security, underlining the country’s role as a regional business hub and promoter of peace and democracy in the region.

In addition, Odinga underscored the readiness of the East Africa region to lead the African Union, pointing to the region’s optimal position under the AU’s rotational leadership policy.
Besides, he spoke of his visionary leadership and experience as the AU’s Special Envoy for infrastructure, envisioning pushing Africa towards greater economic opportunities and investment.
“My tenure as AU’s Special Envoy for infrastructure equipped me with the understanding of Africa’s challenges and the options, we have to advance solutions to help move our continent into the next frontier,” Kenya’s former Prime Minister noted.
Mudavadi and Raila Advocates for Peace
Similarly, both leaders stressed the significance of prioritizing connectivity initiatives and building strong technological plans to enhance continental integration and competitiveness in the global market.

Further, they advocated for opening up African skies to boost connectivity and economic development, underscoring the importance of peace and unity for the region’s progress.
“I stand before you as a candidate deeply committed to the principles of unity, peace, and development,” Odinga noted.
As discussions at the ministerial meeting focus on selecting a candidate for the AU leadership who can steer Africa towards unity, prosperity, and global influence, the endorsements and advocacy efforts for Odinga reflect a unified vision for advancing continental cooperation and leadership.
