Days after Iran launched missile attack in Israel, and with growing international pressure on parties not to escalate the tension, Kenya has declared its position on the war in the Middle East.
Kenya’s Prime Cabinet secretary and Cabinet for foreign and diaspora affairs Musalia Mudavadi has called for peace and cessation of hostilities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday October 2, Mudavadi said Kenya was concerned about the worrying developments in the Middle East that began on 1st October 2024.
“Kenya’s concerns at this time are, first and foremost, with the Kenyan diaspora in Israel, Iran, Lebanon, and across the Middle East,” the statement read in part.
Further, Mudavadi stated, “Kenya is also concerned about the detrimental effect that these developments will have on global oil prices and the economies of countries in the Eastern Africa region.”
At the same time, Musalia urges that, amid the escalating tensions in the region, Kenya calls on all parties and their supporters to exercise the highest restraint. This is crucial for preventing the escalation of conflict.

Kenya Calls for Peace in Middle East
Moreover, he emphasized that Kenya continues to encourage the peaceful resolution of all disputes. This is in accordance with the United Nations Charter and applicable international conventions.
Additionally, Musalia encouraged all Kenyans in the Middle East to register their presence in the region. The registration services are available through the respective Kenyan Diplomatic Missions or through the established Diaspora hotlines.
Musalia further promised that the Kenya’s Government shall remain closely apprised of the developments in the Middle East.
In addition, it remains committed to protecting its citizens across the world.

War in Middle East
On September 28, Hezbollah confirmed the death of their leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. His death resulted from a powerful airstrike in Beirut conducted by the Israeli Military.
Israeli Military affirmed on Saturday, September 28, that they had eliminated Nasrallah in an airstrike on the group’s central command headquarters located in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
Iran responded on October 1, launching more than 200 ballistic missiles in Tehran, even though there were casualties.
The US has pledged to support Israel, warning of severe consequences. “There will be severe consequences for this attack, and we will work with Israel to make that the case,” White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said during a press briefing.
However, President Joe Biden opposed plan by Israel to bomb Iran’s nuclear sites.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed that Tehran would ‘pay’ for the attack.
