President William Ruto has said Kenyans will have to wait longer for cheaper gas prices.
Speaking during an interview at the state house on Sunday, May 14, 2023, Ruto said the implementation of the 300-500 shillings gas cylinders can only happen after the budget has been passed.
“Tarehe moja Juni haiwezekani kwa sababu lazima kwanza tupitishe budget. It would have been possible if it was passed in the supplementary budget,” he stated.
The president further clarified that the lowered prices will be for gas cylinders and not the gas itself.

Ruto made the pledge to lower gas prices during the launch of the Women Enterprise Fund and second product of the Hustler Fund at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on March 2, 2023.
“From June 2023, a 6 kg cylinder of cooking gas will cost KES 500 or KES 300,” Ruto had then said.
