Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki has transferred 12 county commissioners and recalled five others to the ministry’s headquarters in Nairobi.
In a statement on Thursday, January 25, Kindiki said the move is meant to improve service delivery within the National Government Administration cadres.
As part of the changes, Erastus Mbui has been transferred from Kitui to Laikipia, Abdirisack Jaldesa has been moved from Mombasa to Nyandarua, Joshua Nkanatha taken from Kiambu to Murang’a and Mohamed Nur moved from Tana River to Mombasa.
Others affected by the transfers include Henry Wafula who has been moved from Samburu to Makueni.
Also, Kipchumba Ruto has been transferred to Kitui from Busia, Jacob Ouma has been moved from Turkana to Meru and Onesmus Kyatha from Nyamira to Samburu.
“To enhance service delivery within National Government Administration cadres, deployment has been reorganized to take effect on February 1, 2024,” read the statement.
Other officials transferred include Patrick Mukuria who has been moved from Murang’a to Kisii, Appollo Okello moved from West Pokot and named the Personal Assistant to Rift Valley Regional Commissioner while Hiram Kahiro will move to Kwale from the Ministry headquarters.
Recalled Commissioners
Apart from the transfers, CS Kindiki also recalled five commissioners.
Those recalled include Mohammed Barre from Kwale, Joseph Kanyiri from Laikipia and Isaac Masinde from Narok.
Tom Anjere and Jude Wasonga were recalled from Kisii and Kajiado respectively.
Kindiki Promotes Deputy Commissioners
Besides, the Interior CS promoted twelve deputy county commissioners (DCC) to county commissioner position.
David Koskei was promoted from DCC Masinga to Commissioner at Tana River, Mohammed Ramadhani from DCC Transamara West to Commissioner Garissa and Julius Kavita from DCC Kirinyaga to Commissioner Turkana.
Nakuru West DCC Khalif Abdillahi has been moved to West Pokot as the Commissioner while his Mt Elgon counterpart Reuben Lotiatia has been posted as Narok Commissioner.

“Regional Commissioners will continue serving in their current stations,” directed Kindiki.
James Taari has been promoted from Kajiado North DCC to Kajiado Commissioner while Kwale DCC Mwangi Meru has been posted as the new Kakamega Commissioner.
Mwachauga Chaunga has been moved from Turkana West DCC to Busia Commissioner and Benson Leparmorijo from PA/RC Centra DCC to Kisumu Commissioner.

Others affected include Duncan Darusi, DCC Narok West who will be Kiambu’s Commissioner, John Cheruiyot has been moved from the ministry’s headquarters and posted to Nyamira as Commissioner while David Wanyonyi has been promoted from Mathira East DCC to be the Commissioner of Nairobi.
Of note is that 24 other County Commissioners have not been affected by the reshuffle.
