Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has shed light on the confusion surrounding the number of children and wives his late father, Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa Mkweha, had.

While paying his last tribute to his father on Friday, February 21, Kingi explained that the confusion arose after Mwaruwa had a joint interview with journalists from major mainstream media outlets in the country.

Kingi stated that the number of children and wives his father revealed during the interview was different from what he had always known.

“Last year, journalist KTN, NTV and Citizen interviewed mzee where he shared about his life, his children, wives, grandchildren and great-grandchildren,” Kingi said.

“At that time, I was in Nairobi, and he didn’t tell me that he had been interviewed. I could have prompted him to say this or that, but Mzee shared everything he knew; he didn’t hold back.”

Kingi Reveals Confusion Over Number of Children His Father Had

The Speaker recalled how he learned new details about having other siblings while watching a 7 PM bulletin.

“Now, as I was watching the 7 PM news, I heard Mzee giving statistics that didn’t match with what I knew,” he stated.

“I know that our mothers are three, but according to Mzee, they aren’t. I also know the number of his children very well, but the number given on TV doesn’t match, so I wasn’t sure about it.”

Kingi revealed that while writing Mzee Mwaruwa’s life history, they had to issue an apology to their late father for not including his other children, as they were unaware of where they were or had never met them.

“We had to ask for forgiveness while writing the eulogy for Mzee, but we had to write what we knew because he has passed away and we can’t ask him anymore,” he added.

“During the interview, Mzee said that he has more than 40 children. Mzee knew, but when we count, they don’t even reach twenty. We don’t know where the others are; only Mzee knew.”

The former Kilifi governor praised his father stating that he is a true African man with a large family, but he never stumbled under the weight of such a big family because of the great love he had for them.

Senate Speaker Pays Tribute to His Father

Announcing the sad news in an emotional statement on Sunday, February 16, Speaker Kingi recounted the highs and lows of their life together.

“Dad, our Patriarch Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa has rested. I’m completely broken. Dad, especially when I remember the painful journey and struggles that you went through to make me who I am today,” he stated.

The Speaker, at the same time, said that his father lived a challenging life characterized by many ailments that often pinned him down.

He also highlighted a key moment in their life during the December 2024 holidays, when they danced together in celebration.

“Since I attained adulthood, I don’t remember ever dancing with you, Dad. Not until December 24, 2024, during Christmas at Mjanaheri village, when, for the very first time, we danced, danced and danced together until sunset,” Kingi said.

“Your face beamed with joy. We were not just celebrating Christmas but giving thanks to the Almighty for your remarkable recovery after years of battling many ailments. I didn’t know that dance would be the first and last with you, dad.”
