Four-time London Marathon winner and two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge will lead a star-studded field of 25 elite athletes at the 2025 TCS London Marathon.

The Kenyan icon, widely considered one of the greatest marathoners of all time, will be aiming for another victory in what promises to be a thrilling contest on the iconic streets of London.

Kipchoge will be joined by four fellow Kenyans in a competitive lineup that also includes marathon legends and rising stars from around the world.

Kipchoge will be making his return to compete in London for the first time since 2020. He has won four London Marathon titles in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019.

Eliud Kipchoge to Face Kenenesia Bekele, Tola and Mutiso

However, in 2020 Kipchoge had his first loss in more than six years, when he finished eighth in the London Marathon.

At the 2024 Paris Games Kipchoge attempted to win a third straight gold medal in the marathon. However, a little under halfway through the race he withdrew because of back pain.

The two-time Olympic marathon champion is the fastest man in the field thanks to the Personal Best (PB) of 2:01:09 he set in Berlin in 2022, a former world record that now places him second on the world all-time list.

Also, on the list is he Ethiopian legend, Kenenisa Bekele was the latest man to be added to the men’s elite list.

He is the third-fastest man in history over the marathon distance thanks to the personal best of 2:01:41 he set in Berlin in 2019.

Bekele was runner-up behind Alexander Mutiso in London last year.

Joining Bekele is Tamirat Tola, the reigning Olympic marathon champion. Tola stunned the world with his gold medal performance in Tokyo and now aims to translate that success onto the London course, where the competition will be fierce.

Alexander Mutiso, the defending London Marathon champion, will be another major name to watch.

The Kenyan’s victory in 2024 proved he is a force to be reckoned with on this iconic course, and he will look to repeat his success and defend his title against a world-class field.

Kiplimo, Sawe and Kiplagat Also in the List

The 2025 race will also feature Jacob Kiplimo, the Ugandan athlete who holds the world record in the half marathon.

Kiplimo’s blistering pace and extraordinary endurance will make him a serious contender, as he looks to make his mark in the full marathon distance.

In another exciting addition to the field, Sebastian Sawe will be a runner to watch. The Kenyan made history with the fastest marathon debut ever at the 2024 Valencia Marathon, clocking an impressive 2:02:05.

Sawe’s meteoric rise in the marathon world has earned him a spot among the sport’s elite, and fans will be eager to see if he can back up his debut performance.

Kenya’s Timothy Kiplagat, who boasts a personal best of 2:02:55, will also be in the mix, aiming to improve on his impressive resume and challenge the best in the world.

Meanwhile, Milkesa Mengesha, the 2024 Berlin Marathon champion, enters London as one of the hottest contenders after a stunning victory in Berlin, cementing his place among the marathon elite.

Abdi Nageeye, the 2024 New York City Marathon winner and Olympic silver medalist, of the Netherlands will also bring his wealth of experience to the race.

They will line up alongside Olympic fourth-place finisher Emile Cairess of Great Britain, German record-holder Amanal Petros, Norway’s Sondre Moen, Australian record-holder Andrew Buchanan, Italy’s European half marathon champion Yeman Crippa and Olympic triathlon champion Alex Yee.

The event will take place on April 27, 2025.
