Police in Kisumu County have managed to prevent anti-government demonstrators from accessing the county’s Central Business District (CBD).
The demonstrators who were marching to the CBD from Kondele were blocked at Patels Flat by anti-riot officers.
However, the Azimio supporters retreated without causing chaos and turned towards Kachok in their attempt to access CBD using Nairobi Road.
On reaching Kachok, they met with another set of anti-riot officers who were manning Nairobi Road.
As such, they gave up and headed towards Nyamsaria. Some of the protesters fell off after being denied access to the CBD as they saw no need to demonstrate towards the village.
“Why are we going to Nyamasaria, State House is in town,” said a protestor.

Nevertheless, the demonstration in Kisuu is led by Kisumu Central MP Dr Joshua Oron since Governor Nyong’o Nyong’o failed to show up.
“I promise that this demonstration will be very peaceful,” the legislator said at the start of the march in Kondele.
Kisumu governor Anyang’ Nyong’o suspended all public demonstrations in Kisumu County.
He stated that he made the decision after consultations between the Azimio La Umoja Leadership and the County Executive Committee.
The governor said protesters will join demonstrators in Nairobi.
“The people of Kisumu remain committed to the aspirations of Azimio La Umoja and its campaign for a better Kenya,” Prof Nyong’o said in a statement released Wednesday.
Nonetheless, opposition leader Raila Odinga criticized Kisumu County Administration for calling off protests in the county.
He maintained that anti-government protests would continue as planned in Kisumu, further asking Kisumu County governor Anyang Nyong’o to retract his announcements calling off the anti-government protests in the lakeside city.
