Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General (SG) Collins Oyuu has landed a top government position.
In a gazette notice dated Thursday, October 19, the Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Mochogu appointed Oyuu as a member of Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA).
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 10 (1) (e) of the Kenya National Qualifications Frameworks Act, the Cabinet secretary for Education Appoints Collins Oyuu,” read part of the notice.
As per the notice, Oyuu will serve in the role for three years effective from October 19. He was appointed alongside four others.
“The above will be members of the Kenya National Qualification Authority for a period of three years,” read the statement in part.

Other appointees named in the notice include former Daystar University Director Mike Kuria, Former First Director General of TVET Authority Kipkirui Langat.
In addition, the Federation of Kenya Employers Chief Executive Director Jacqueline Mugo and Everline Owoko were among the appointees.
Minning Appointment
President William Ruto also appointed Sophia Kutiti Olesambu to serve as the Chairperson of the Minising Rights Board under the Mining act as the Chairperson.

Mrs Sophia Kutit Olesambu who is a Geologist and with over 13 years of experience in mining, will work closely with the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs.
Olesambu, according to the notice, will serve in the position for a period of three years beginning October 19.
“In exercise of the powers confered by section 30 (2) (a) of the mining act, I Wiliam Samoei Ruto appoint Sophia Kutit Olesambu to be Chairperson of the Mineral Rights Board,” said Ruto.
University Appointment
What’s more, the President reappointed Professor Justin Irina to be the Chancellor of Muranga University of Technology.
Consequently, Prof Irina will continue his term at the institution for the next five years with effect from 1October 19.
Labour Appointment
On her part, Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore appointed Timothy Irimu Ruhiu as a member of the National Council Occupational Safety and Health.
Likewise, Mr. Irimu who previously worked for the East African Portland Cement Company, will serve as a member of the board for three years.
