The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) on Monday, August opened an online auction for the sale of overstayed cargo at the Port of Mombasa.
In a statement, KRA notified the public auction that the auction will run up to Sunday, August 20, 2023.
“To bid, login using your KRA iTax PIN and iTax Password. The Online Auction can be accessed through https://customsauction.kra.go.ke/products,” stated KRA.
The cargo under auction majorly includes cars, truck mounted house structure, escalators, containers, laptops, camera tripod and household items such as television, wooden boxes, bicycles, printed books, Bible, Holy Quran, cooking pan, among others.
Vehicles Under Auction
KRA is auctioning a used Nissan Ad Expert, white in color at a reserve price of Ksh. 764,000.
Also, a Toyota Spade, CHS: NCP141-9147283 YOM: 2014, pearl in color, CC: 1496, Petrol (BFT) is under auction at a reserve price of Ksh.415,000.
“Nissan Note DBA-E12 CH: E12-336815, color: white petrol, YOM:2015, CC: 1190(CB2), Reserve Price: Ksh.500,000,” said KRA.
In addition, a used Hyundai, i10 CH: MALAN51CLDM356739, YOM:2013, blue in color, Manual (ALT) goes at reserve price of Ksh.232,000.
A Reserve Price of Ksh. 834,136 is placed for a Toyota Rumion, CH: NZE151-4015257, petrol, black, YOM: 2015(AWD).

Other Items on sale
There is a reserve price of Ksh. 450,000 for a 1400 Bags Gypsum Powder (BFT)
Further, there are assorted furniture and used clothing, treadmill, coldroom in CKD with parts, Panels, and Compressor (MICT) goes for Ksh.550,000.
In addition, a Ksh. 15,000 reserve price is placed for 3 spares in wooden boxes spare parts (Assorted Air and Oil Filters for Heavy Machinery) (CWHSE)
Also, there is a Metallic Black Box at a reserve price of Ksh.3,000 while used household goods including bicycles, toys and assorted home appliances goes for a reserve price of Ksh.700,000.
Additionally, a truck mounted house structure containing 4 double deckers beds goes for a reserve price of Ksh.2,000,000.

User Concerns
A few Kenyans online raised questions on the bidding process, especially for the used vehicles.
A user by the name, Kikuyu Council of Rich Elders, asked KRA to confirm if the vehicles have duty paid or if there will be additional charges required to get the cars or other cargo out of your custody?
“Kindly note that the bidding price is final, and no taxation will be done. However, the registration with NTSA will be done after you win the bid at your own expense,” replied KRA.
KRA July Auction
In July, KRA announced that the Customs Public Auction will be online.
However, for those who preferred physical viewing were to visit Customs Warehouses at JKIA and the Port of Mombasa.
The KRA Auction was conducted for two days, on July 17 and 18th 2023 Time: 8.00am – 5.00pm.
