Julius Gacheru Wangari alias Chris Gacheru who has been posing as Spice FM journalist Eric Latiff has been arrested and arraigned in court.
According to a complaint filed with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the man was soliciting money from unsuspecting guests invited to the ‘Situation Room’ show under false pretenses
Gacheru was presented before Milimani Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe on Monday, June 10, who allowed police to make an application to detain him for seven days for further investigations.
Latiff hosts the four-hour morning show alongside Scholar Nduh Okoh and Political Strategist and scientist Charles Muga.

How Gacheru Impersonated Eric Latiff and Conned Guests
Appearing on behalf of Latiff, corporal Lucas Juma detailed that Latiff lodged a formal complaint with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on May 28, 2024.
Additionally, Latiff told the police that the impersonator was using his name to con unsuspecting guests that were invited to the show.
Further, he indicated that some of the individuals who were victims of the con were prominent personalities from leading political organizations, prominent businesspersons and senior government officials.
Furthermore, the guests reported to Latiff that they were contacted through WhatsApp using an Airtel number between November 2023 and April 2024.

“That the guests referred to are prominent personalities from leading political organizations, prominent businesspersons and senior government officials who were hosted by the complainant between November 2023 and April 2024,” the officer said.
Consequently, Latiff shared the contact of the suspect with DCI and a manhunt was launched that led to his identification and arrest.
Moreover, Gacheru was arrested on June 8, 2024, at an apartment within Zambezi area in Kikuyu, Kiambu County and two mobile phones were recovered in his apartment.

Details of The Situation Room Show
The show was launched in 2020, to fill up a vacuum for intelligent conversation on radio.
According to Latiff, the show focuses on topical issues, current affairs, and thought-provoking topics.
