The Law Society of Kenya president Eric Theuri has officially announced his candidature for the position of LSK Male Representative to the Judicial Service Commission – JSC.
In a statement on Friday, January 19, Theuri revealed that he had been cleared to vie for the post in the elections set for February 29.
“Esteemed colleagues, friends and beloved family, it gives me great joy to announce that I have been cleared to run for the post of Male Representative of the Law Society of Kenya to the Judicial Service Commission,” said Theuri.
He added, “Serving and representing our society is an honor that I truly esteem. My commitment to you remains the same.”
Theuri promised to enhance accountability and transparency while safeguarding the principles cherished by the legal profession.
“I pledge to promote integrity and stand up for justice at every chance that presents itself and to ensure that fidelity to the law is upheld in this country.
Finally, I vow to ensure that your voice will be heard,” he stated.

Theuri, who is also an Advocate of the High Court added, “Your concerns will be addressed and the inclusivity of our voice as advocates, key stakeholders in the administration of justice, is heard, respected as it should, as the rule rather than the exception.
Over the coming days, I look forward to positive and enriching engagements as I unwrap and break down my action plan to you the members.”
LSK Constitutional Requirements
The term of the current Law Society of Kenya Male Representative to the Judicial Service Commission, Macharia Njeru shall expire on May 12, 2024.
Pursuant to Article 171(4), members of the Commission, apart from the Chief Justice and the Attorney General, shall hold office, if they remain qualified, for a term of five years and shall be eligible to be nominated for one further term of five years.

Eligibility
To be cleared to vie for the seat, one must be a male member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing with at least 15 years’ experience as an advocate and high moral character, integrity.
Additionally, you must be imparted with the mandatory attributes such as no record of criminal conviction by a Court of Law.
Another attribute is that you should not be declared bankrupt by a Court of Law.
Finally, you should not be convicted of any act of professional misconduct before the Advocates Disciplinary Committee.
Theuri in LSK offices
Theuri succeeded Nelson Havi who served as President from February 2020 to September 6, 2022.
Before landing to this prime job, he served as a council member and Chairman of LSK, Nairobi branch.
According to LSK only two candidates have been cleared. This is after nominations on Friday for the LSK’s male representative to the Judicial Service Commission.
Eric Theuri will square it out with lawyer Omwanza Ombati for the seat.
Ombati was the first to be cleared by the election board. He presented his nomination papers on Wednesday, while Theuri presented his on Thursday for the February 29 polls.
