The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala has fired back at Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi following a fiery statement which referred to the former Kakamega Senator as an “Elevated Member of County Assembly (MCA)”.

Malala was speaking in an interview on Citizen TV on Thursday, May 30, 2024, when he addressed the earlier statement made by Sudi on Wednesday.

The former vocal UDA Party Secretary General downplayed the statement claiming that Sudi was not the one who authored the text that was later shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

In the post, the Kapseret MP had referred to Malala as an “Elevated MCA” after the UDA SG issued a warning to politicians within the party and Cabinet Secretaries (CS) involved in early campaigns.

Malala while maintaining that the UDA party will not tolerate any form of indiscipline from its members, defended Sudi saying that the lawmaker was not the actual person who made the post.

The SG while urging Sudi to have a conversation with his Communications team further defended the lawmaker saying that he is a respectable person who respects everyone including grassroot leaders.

Malala Defends Sudi

“We shall not tolerate any form of indiscipline even if they decide to use all forms to hit back. When I saw the tweet that referred to me as an MCA, I laughed it off because I knew it was not the particular MP who made the post.

There is a way you can tell when someone makes a post out of their feelings or have their communications team do it for them. I would like to urge the MP to have a conversation with his Communications team who handle his X account to consult him before making any posts,” said Malala.

“Sudi is a respectable person he is my friend, and I don’t think he is the one who made the post. I know his handwriting he is not the one who made the post I can tell you for free it is not Oscar Sudi who tweeted that tweet yesterday. He respects everyone even grassroot leaders.”

Malala further made an appeal to all MCAs who may have been infuriated by Sudi for feeling being undermined to ignore the remarks as it was not the lawmaker who made the post.

According to the SG, the tweet was meant to undermine MCAs but did not mean a lot to him pointing out that he has been MCA and is proud of being a leader who has risen from the bottom.

Ruto roped in

At the same time, he likened his rise to President William Ruto noting that he too rose from the bottom up to his current position and called for leaders to respect each other regardless of their roles and positions.

“Even our President, he lost when he vied for his first time ever when he wanted to be a KANU official in his division of Soi.  But he did not lose hope, he rose and became a district official before he was elected as an MP, then a Minister and now he is a President. Any leader must be respected even a Church leader or a leader in school. All leaders in Kenya must be respected,” he added.

Meanwhile, Malala has downplayed divisions within the ruling party saying that indiscipline from a few members does not mean disagreements within the party leadership.

He highlighted that UDA is a party that has close to 9 million members which is being divided by a few identified people.

Likening the party to a ship, Malala claimed that a vessel carrying 3,000 people can sink due to a few people who may cause leakage which underscores the action taken by the party to avoid such an occurrence.

Malala had in a statement on Wednesday singled out remarks made by Sudi, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wa Muchomba, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen, and Public Service CS Moses Kuria warning them of being involved in early politics.
