Nakuru Matatu operators have resumed operations in the Central Business District (CBD) after they were forcefully driven out in March 2020.
The matatu operators were banned from the Nakuru CBD in a bid to avoid congestion.
Nonetheless, Citizen Digital on Wednesday, August 31 reported that matatu operators returned to their old terminus at the heart of the CBD.
Moreover, this move comes a day after Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika toured the 4 matatu termini of KFA, Ziwani, Railways and Gateiguru in the outskirts of Nakuru Town.
During her visit, governor Kihika assured matatu operators that they will put in place proper structures to ensure they have a centralized terminus that is equipped with social amenities.
Likewise, Kihika assured the operators that public participation will take place to ensure the matatu operators are satisfied with the new modern stage.
Nonetheless, the eviction of Matatus from Nakuru CBD was effected in 2020, during the tenure of former Governor Lee Kinyanjui.
As such, the issue has been a top agenda for Governor Kihika who had promised to listen to the plight of matatu operators before her election.
In addition, the eviction saw matatu operators on different occasions complain over lack of proper amenities in the new designated stages, poor street lighting and minimal returns in their business.

Similarly in September 2020, matatu operators protested imploring the then governor to allow them resume operations in the CBD.
Unfortunately, their concerns were ignored as measures to evict them had already been put in place and implemented.
