Residents of at least thirty estates will have to endure more than six hours of no water if a notice by Thika Water and Sewerage Company (THIWASCO) is anything to go by. The company has announced a scheduled water supply interruption on Friday, May 16, which will affect tens of estates.
The interruption is set to facilitate the installation of Pump Number 3; a crucial infrastructure upgrade aimed at boosting water delivery efficiency and reliability.
According to a public notice issued by THIWASCO, the shutdown will last for six hours, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and it will affect all areas served by the company, including Thika town CBD, estates, and industrial zones.
“This critical upgrade is part of our ongoing commitment to improve service delivery to our valued customers,” said Dr. Moses Kinya, Managing Director at THIWASCO.
“We urge all customers to store enough water and use it sparingly during the interruption period,” he added.
Estates to be affected
The affected areas include, Thika CBD, Section 2, Section 9, Industrial Area, Light Industry, Nanasi, Umoja Estate, Kiboko, U.T.I/USAID Estate, TUDC Estate, Ofafa, Majengo, Starehe, Kimathi, Biafra, Pilot, YMCA, Bulleys, Thika Level 5 Hospital, Thika Prison and Viewland,
Additionally, Riverside Naidu, Ngoingwa, Karibaribi, Tora, Witeithie, Makongeni, Kisil, Deacon, Kiganjo, Kiandutu, Athena, Kang’oki, Kimunye, Muthaara, Maraba, Kamuthi, Gachagi, Kamenu, 12th Battalion, Landless, Gatuanyaga, Salama, Githima, Munyu, Maki, Bendor, Githingiri, Kiganda, Maporomoko, Bahati Ridge, Thika Greens, and KARLO will also be affected.

About THIWASCO
Thika Water and Sewerage Company has its origins in the Thika Water Project, which was launched in 1950 along the Chania River and became operational in 1956.
Initially managed by the now-defunct Thika Municipal Council’s Water Department, the project laid the foundation for modern water service provision in the area.
In line with reforms introduced through the Water Act of 2002, THIWASCO was formally established as a limited company in July 2009.
